The ring of Fire gives you an ordinary fire brand: that is, it does triple dice damage to creatures that are vulnerable to fire. If your melee weapon is a 9d6 Glaive, it does an extra 63 damage. If it's a 2d5 Pike, it does +12 extra. If your opponent is immune to fire, or is already vulnerable to an x3 slay or brand on the weapon, there is no extra damage.

NOTE: the "best" brands are Lightning, because more monsters are vulnerable, and Acid, because Sauron is vulnerable.

So I have a +14 Ring of Acid and a +16 Ring of Lightning on "Sting". Figure that should cover it.

      Thanks for the input

You probably shouldn't wear more than one of those rings at any time. And they don't do much good with Sting; only about +7 damage at the most. A Ring of Damage would be better.

So when one says "triple dice damage", what exactly does that mean?

It triples the damage from the dice. In V a dagger(1d4)(+5, +5) will do between 1+5 and 4+5 damage per hit, and the first number is the dice damage. So with a brand these damages against something which doesn't resist them will be between 3+5 and 12+5.
