    Angband doesn't start

Yes. Suddenly, starting from today, Angband (and all other *bands) do not start. The process is there, but nothing appears. No restarts helped.
    I didn't install / deinstall anything meanwhile.

Any ideas? I want to play Angband! =c

This has happened to me over the last few days. I am on Windows XP. I found that rebooting my computer will always fix this issue but it comes back occasionally. I thought it was just my computer...

That's what I first thought as well (I get the same problem), but he said restarts didn't help...

Maybe I was just unlucky and it started again twice... ^.^"
I'll try it again today, we'll see.

            Also, XP. Just like Zikke.

              Now I'm sure.
              Nothing.

              [Edit]
              Now I'm *really* baffled.
NPP, Rand, Steam, ToME and Un work.
              V, O, DaJ and FA don't.
              Any pattern there? =/

                Well, me. Almost.

It's mostly recent ones that don't work (assuming that's O110u). My first thought is fonts, and my second one is filehandling. And my third one is admin priveleges. Has windows updated recently?

                  Yeah, it's 110u.
Uhm, it worked previously, so I don't think it's the fonts or filehandling.
It did update. I have full admin privileges and stuff, though, so I don't know why that should be any problem...

I have seen this before on XP sp3. It's some weird resource problem that causes angband to take an indefinitely long time to start. Rebooting should solve the problem.

V is compiled with the mingw toolset. I'm guessing FA, O and DaJ all use the mingw toolset for compilations too?

NPP and Steam I'm pretty sure were MSVCC, no idea about Rand, and I have a feeling Un might be too?

I think it might be a compiler issue, anyway.

Well, as already said, rebooting doesn't help. For some reason.
                        Is there any other solution?

I left my computer on the whole night (virus scan).
There are around 12-13 *Band processes, and nothing happenend.
I don't think it will, either.

if someone could catch this in a debugger, the problem would probably be solved quickly. There is one similarity between the variants mentioned: the (my) menu and preferences code. But I don't see how that can possibly cause a failure before the system even starts up. In any case, I've never had the problem Narvius mentions after rebooting, just the occasional very long start time after playing several (many) games without a fresh boot.

I could try to set up a debugger on my pc, but that won't really help. I have only minor programming experience.
But, I could try to compile it on my pc and see if it works.
Would need a step-by-step guide, I've never compiled anything beyond C# programs and flash applications.

When this happens on my windows box, I have to close ALL command prompt windows. Then the process appears. Until that happens, it shows up in task mgr but I see nothing. This -always-
happens on my box, possibly due to the fonts I'm using.

As soon as I close the last command prompt window, the process appears. Pretty weird.

Try killing off/closing processes until you find out which one is blocking it.
