Am I being thick? Newbie question

Hi, sorry if this is a really dumb question. I am an old school Moria player from a long time ago and have recently stumbled across Angband. Anyway I am currently running a high elf mage and haven't come across all the spell books yet. I have:

    Magic for Beginners
    Conjurings and Tricks
    Incantations and Illusions
    Sorcery and Evocations
    Resistances of Scarabtarices

Anyway apparently I can learn 17 new spells but I don't have the other books and I can't find them. Are they just going to eventually appear in the magic shop/black market or do I find them lower down in the dungeon? I am currently at level 52, way out of my depth and getting scared. Thats the other thing in Moria the goods in the shops got better the further you went in the game, in Angband I only seem to find good stuff in the black market.

Sorry if the answer's obvious I did have a read around but didn't find anything about it which I assume means the question's really stupid.....

    Thanks

This is the first dungeon book (so-called because the magic shop doesn't stock them) - there are four more. They do turn up occasionally in the Black Market, but you are more likely to find them in the dungeon.

The shops continue to stock in the same way regardless of how far on in the game you are. You will occasionally see good weapons or armour in the regular shops, and quite often see good stuff in the Black Market; again, though, the dungeon is your best source of good gear.

Ha thanks very much. Ok so I'll keep searching then. I found Resistances of Scarabtarices in the black market and had to pay an arm and a leg for it! So if I find them in the dungeon then thats much better then. I was starting to get a little frustrated beacause I need more powerful spells really. Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

The next dungeon book is just about in range, it is native to level 50.
You can stumble upon dungeon books way earlier though. Usually the RNG gives you one of the best dungeon books an dlvl 7 or so, of course it won't be the right one for your class.
I tend to find lots of priest books when playing a ranger and lots of mage books when playing a paladin. That's just the usual RNG cruelty.

It's all about the stupid questions... soon enough you'll be answering them.... as well as asking them.

This is true! And why I set the non-class books to squelch so that I don't become frustrated.

BTW, to the original poster, the last couple books are native to very deep dungeon levels, so look in vaults (staff of object detection is key here), or you can dive to dlvl 95 and find it the old fashioned way
