So why do potions of true seeing NOT provide blindness resistance?
I just lost a mage at char level 16 to a bunch of dark hounds because I had no way out and that would have been the obvious solution. Protect blind does exist on items but this is not something starting characters have. A staff of teleportion is something character will often carry for exactly this kind of situation but at that point I didn't find any yet.
I happened to be caught in a particularly unlucky spot assaulted from both sides in a long corridor by a total of 8 dark hounds. I went through my entire stack of 30 cure wounds potions hoping for a single turn of not being breathed on but no luck (I had a ring of escaping on but no speed potions available).
I drank my unid potions and actually got a true seeing. I thought I made it. But all I got was see invisible plus some infravision but still blinded immediately.
I had some previous runs in with a HT paladin against hit to blind monsters and again there was no good solution available but after a dozen turns of drink potion be blinded again I eventually got lucky and could get away.
A source of temporary blindness protection available when the first blindness causing monsters appear is missing and potions of true seeing would be the obvious choice. Of course whether you have one on you when you need it is another question but that is what the game is all about.
