Is Angband good training for life?

I ask myself this from time to time when I start to wonder if I can justify spending sooo many hours playing this game. I think the risk / reward assessment that is the staple of the game is good training for at least some aspects of life.

Some people started to learn coding driven by a wish to improve Angband, though I dont think that that is what JP means.

Question: Is a gamer the same as a musician ?

It depends. If I get attacked by a wild bear in real life, I am sure I will stand still for 10 minutes pondering over the content of my backpack to see if there is any item that could help me.

When a dracolich one-shots my level 40 hobbit ranger, and I have to actively train my mind not to replay the death on repeat, that's got to be good for something

I put killing Morgoth on my resume. This is why I now earn the big biscuits.

Meh. angband probably trains some skill.. life training probably better things to do, but I wouldn't argue its a waste of time. Waste of time if you wish to be doing something better. Time well spent if its what you want to spend time on. shrug.

More to the point, is life good training for Angband?

I was going to make a post along those lines initially, but then re-read the op and thought it was a genuine question, so I didnt.
