    Toughest Uniques

Am I crazy, or have there been some big recent changes in some top-level uniques?

I used to find Wiruin the Maelstrom super duper tough, but now he only has 3500 HP and a AC of 10? or maybe its that he resisted Single Combat only 2x on me...

Meanwhile, the TARRASQUE is a bitch and a half! 8500 HP, 222 AC, and he breathed Frost or Disenchantment seemed like 80% of turns (of course I had drunk temporary Fire resist and he knew this). He was always a very tough unique and killed me several times in the past, but I felt with a 50th level character with really excellent equipment including big speed rings and boots, he really had a bigtime shot of killing me, and he really wasted my consumables bigtime. Went through 2 po Life and several restore mana including them being shattered by his frost, and still needed to rely on several big healing spells each carrying 5% fail rate--yikes!!

depends on what class you play with.

Rangers will nuke most uniques easily, both because of the ranged damage, and because they can cast Resistance. Mages .. have / had (depending on how messed up the new release is) Rift which will push away any unique that needs to come in range. Granted that they suck at low levels, but once they get Chaos Blast there is little that can stop them - i dont even use Mana Storm anymore for Morgoth even.

    Warriors and Rogues are stuffed.

    Paladins can just spam Heal.

    Blackguards idk, Rage or something.

Paladins "spamming heal" is problematic at 5% fail. When I had 1096 HP if Tarrasque can breathe disenchant 500 and do 1600/3 damage from fire/cold = 533, they can nearly kill in 2 breaths (adding in minor damage from hits and such). I was faster than him but really didn't feel comfortable with spell healing at 5% fail with only 450 HP. I felt I had quite a good chance of dying--turns out I didn't but... I guess I should be carrying potions of resist cold/heat. I actually DID have potion resist heat quaffed (which I found on the same DLevel) but I don't really want to use 2 inventory slots with them... I think the fight would have burnt way fewer consumables and been much less stressful with BOTH R heat and R cold quaffed...

I assume you don't fight the Tarrasque without resist disenchant.
Then the disenchant breath does between 250 and 430 damage, with about 325 on average. Just heal after every breath, no only if you fall below 550 HP.

I usually carry Mushrooms of Emergency for Tarrasque and Balrog fights, if i don't have the spell.

I don't do much of ANYTHING without resist disenchant :-) Doesn't decrease damage that much unfortunately.

Wait...what do mushrooms of emergency do? I never carry them... Balrogs dont last too long vs Paladins with a decent sized weapon and Weapon-->demon bane. Tarrasque on the other hand is just an animal, and I didn't happen to have a slay animal on me. Just a pure slice 'n dice with aglarang...

            New Question:

Regarding Morgoth: I have a winner from a different version I have been able to see monster details on other uniques I encountered with previous characters. But with Morgoth, for some reason I can't see all the details, like HP, attacks, etc. Just says "unknown"--is this because he's been tweaked in recent versions?

I want to see that so I can put the best equipment together to deal with him. Like I won't need nexus resistance I think, but i will need Dark and Nether... I just found shield of Haradrim which is usually very good for final battle and shouldn't need the resistances of Thorin--it's basically a nice Dwarven shield... And I think it makes Aglarang better than my MoD *Slay Evil*, though this MoD has Telepathy!

Heal 200, and temporary resist heat and cold.

Ah so they're very good, as long as you have rCHAOS (I hate hallucination).

Unfortunately my recent character which clearly could have killed Morgy, decided to f* around with a Druj pit: he had a scroll of banishment, typed in "d" in stead of "s". oops. No problem--he had celeborn--unfortunately recharging.

So we played around the edges of the room--somehow there was a misclick while trying to line up targeting of a wand of Dragon's Flame, and... "You die, -7 hp". I mean come on! the character had speed 4.0! This has to be the stupidest YASD ever!

But next character will use mushrooms of emergency haha!

                    Just a quick edit

But seriously, the Tarrasque for me has always been the toughest unique - since the days of yore (and I mean early 90's)

Wiruin on the other hand, if you don't know it's there and you don't have rSound can drop any @ if you get into range given its super speed and proclivity for breathing.

But the key is Wiruin doesn't move. so if you can get line of site, you can kill it with pebbles.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Farmer Maggot.

Now that is one scary hombre. My current winner has killed every unique except Maggot. That moan attack is damaging to the soul.

And of course Father Christmas. I mean, what sort of sick bastard would kill the jolly old guy... ?

Hmm. Most annoying, Smeagol, you bloody thieving SOB.

Most YASD maybe Azog (I can take him!).

Most 'oops that just happened' whats the doggy that breathes Huan? And Phoenix without iFire. The late game heavy breathers, when it is at the point you are kinda just breezing along and then get that 'oh yeah damn the max dmg is THAT much' moment.

Yeah Huan is always tough. I hate that we even have to fight him--he's Valar after all...

I just won playing for the first time with RandArts, which I think is easier than StandArts. I mean, I caught a *Killer* weapon Trident of Gwalin 3d10 +29, +1 attack, with XUndead and XDragon, branded with acid, with a ton of other goodies including HLife. It was so big, I ended up tossing a Blade of Chaos of Gondolin, an MOD *Slay Evil*, and even a MOD Holy Avenger!

Also the Balance Dragon scale of Elvenkind didn't hurt And 3 non-weapon items with (+8,+6) or better, and a +14 speed ring.

Thanks much to the community for:

                            (A) Telling me about +15 as the max bonus for weapons to enchant up to
                            (B) Informing me how important rods of Slow Monster are even until the endgame--really helps against all tough monsters and works on all uniques including Sauron/Morgoth
                            (C) Informing me about mushrooms of emergency--though this character tossed his in the midgame after finding an amulet with *Fire AND *Cold

You don't have to fight Huan--in fact he is designed to be avoided. Even Carcharoth is a likelier target.
