    That would work.

Exactly this. I only occasionaly notice the title but I'm constantly aware of the number.

I don't see how adding titles adds anything to the gameplay or even the role-playing aspect of the game. The titles are so enigmatic that we can't even decide among ourselves what means what and why.

This entire thread proves there will never be a natural order of titles, everybody has their own idea of what a hellion is and how powerful that ought to be etc.

Yep, I only entertained the idea for the fun of it if someone wanted to change the game for themselves.

        My vote is for numbers.

I'm pretty sure the titles are just a holdover from (A)D&D1e. Notice how long it took to abolish Charisma from the game, probably simply because that was a holdover from D&D.

I vote for removing titles. They are essentially meaningless to the game and imply a sort of hierarchy that an organization might have.

I also find it repulsive to care about the gender of words as if it is some sort of problem to fix. For example 'warrior' has always had masculine inclination simply because naturally women are inferior warriors. That is simply a fact of life and words that were meant to express meaning reflect those facts. Does this mean a woman can't be a warrior? No, but it does mean that female warrior has taken a masculine occupation. Removing the gender from words doesn't have an effect on the facts nor does it create equality. All it does is obscure and distort.

There isn't some imaginary patriarchy keeping your imaginary female character from advancing in life just because her imaginary title has masculine connotation. That imaginary female character isn't more validated as a female just because she has a gender neutral title.

Newspeak is cancerous thought control that doesn't benefit the average person one bit and instead benefits machiavellian politicians.

While I agree, I tried to keep that fact out of a game forum even if the originator had such ideas, and just approach the discussion about the titles themselves, but yes, generally speaking just get rid of them and keep the game out of politics, whether they be misguided or valid ...
