.. do "fake" rings (monsters) affect level feeling??

On a side note, it's annoying how hard vanilla Adamantite
Mail triggers feelings. It's largely garbage unless you're a half troll warrior at level 6

My priest had a whale of a time yesterday wandering around in Adamantite that he found on dlvl3. I mean, sure, he no MP and was heavily slowed, but that was fine because nothing could touch him!
Until I took it off momentarily to cast something on dlvl25, got surprised by a black knight and phased into an insect pit. That was short and brutal.

well it's too late now, i guess i should have FOR SCIENCE save that file. But yeah, i enlighted the level right away at turn 1, and there was nothing else. A staff of teleport. A book mage 2.

Not even to say that i might have missed a Adamantite Plate Mail +0 because of squelch, or a priest book. The level itself was extremely bare of items, so unless the ring mimic raised the feeling, i have no idea what could have happened. It would have been a 3-2 level otherwise.

Sounds like one for the X Files to me.

I even double checked by launching a second instance of the game, popped !E right away, and this is all that was generated.

Just three items?

Also, fake rings and potions of experience etc don't count towards level feelings. It's one of the ways I know a ring of speed is a mimic, if I spot one with ! Enlightenment and the level feeling is below 6-7

Mimics are generated the same way as other monsters and don't change the loot part of level feelings. You aren't on a gauntlet level? I'd assume you'd notice if a chunk of the map was missing.

i am on DL38 and i got a LF 4-9, so obviously i decided to pop my one and only !Enlight, and here is the stuff i found.

1. seeker bolts +0, no slay
2. a heavy crossbow +0
3. a "ring of speed" that actually turned out to be a monster.

I just barely got onto the level, so i doubt any mob could have picked up a dungeon book, i have Excellent stealth so everything should be asleep.

How do ring mobs work?
Do item rings have a % of becoming monsters?!?

At this depth a LF 9 i expect it to be a ring of speed +13 *at least*.
