    Interest in ToME 3.0

I'm sure someone could give a better summary of this than I could, but if you've followed ToME you know that there has been somewhat parallel development effort on ToME 2.3 (a fairly bug-free and entirely playable and very enjoyable game) and ToME 3.0 (which has a more-or less working engine but very little in the way of content- i.e. not playable although other modules do exist).

at the ToME forums, LordBucket has asked for a show of hands of people who are still interested in seeing 3.0 finished.

If you have an account over there, make your voice heard. If not, go ahead and post here. This seems like it might be a "make it or break it" moment for the community, in that the kind souls who are actually making 3.0 are unlikely to do so if it doesn't seem like anyone is going to play the game once it is finished.

If someone has a good summary of the improvements that 3.0 is supposed to include, that might be handy as well. There are whole sub-forums with discussion of development at the ToME forums.

It's a tough call--would ToME 3 be easily modded so that the number of subquests is reduced?
I like Angband in part because there are only 2 fixed quests--the bosses. Random quests are OK, but many fixed quests are 1 time puzzles.

Also, trekking around the wilderness gets old quickly.

But the concept of T3 is very cool. I'd play an old-school (Angband) mod in a second.

I don't know the answer to that. Given that there are already some modules available, I would think this would be possible (to use the engine and write a module from scratch). I don't know how hard it will be to mod the ToME 3 module.

fwiw- it seems like you can ignore a lot of the fixed quests in Tome 2.3, although you can't avoid wilderness travel.

As I posted over at the ToME forums, I was very interested but I'm busy elsewhere for the foreseeable future now.

I'd be interested in playing, or playtesting, but I am not a coder.
I miss autoscum... but not that much.

I'd like to see a 3.0 as well.

I've been expecting an occasion to play ToME again and seeing ToME 3 being completed would surely be a good one.

Most definitely YES. The glory of the T-Engine is that it's very moddable indeed.

Unfortunately the official ToME module is going to the "lots of fixed quests" narrativist/simulationist direction, but if you don't like it, you can mod it or play a module like B.O.B. B.O.B is a gloriously plotless single-dungeon dungeon-crawling game and lots of fun to play. As for myself, I'm developing Zothiqband to be more in the ToME 2 style with a non-Tolkien flavor and a gamist approach to design.

                      Some good news:

                      1) the latest alpha of the T-engine has been released. see here.

                      2) partly due to #1, lead ToME module designer LordBucket has posted this:

As many of you know, alpha19 was just released.

It appears that I am in charge of ToME3 module development.

In this thread I am requesting you to post your "wish list." Anything and everything you would like to see incorporated into the ToME3 module. Both big wishes and small. No limits. Feel free to think big.

I make no promises that anything discussed in this thread will be implemented, but I will read it.

*Awesome*. I just hope the spontaneous crash bug has been fixed...

Edit: Okay, I know the first wishlist item... Windows builds! :P

Windows and OS X builds have now been released a while ago.

Also, I updated Zothiqband to version 0.7.7, making Zothiqband the first module to be updated in 2009. I hope we can get the module scene going again.

My number one request for t3 is a well documented scripting language. I dropped away before because the hooks weren't documented.
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to bind them.
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness interrupt the movie.
