Good to know. I'm not going for a revamp of the Gervais set, but just trying to add and configure the missing tiles. I've played Angband with this set from AngbandTK or something and it's kind of a definite for me. I'm very hesitant to replace anything, but those ASCII placeholders just keep on irritating me . Thank you a lot for constructing and compiling the extended tile sheet.

The blackguard is quite cool btw:

I've already done that for PWMAngband, you can pretty much take the tileset from it and use it in V.
PWMAngband variant maintainer - check https://github.com/draconisPW/PWMAngband (or http://www.mangband.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=9) to learn more about this new variant!

Excellent. I'll head to that direction. Thank you.

Hmmm. PWM set has the missing tiles, but the sheet layout is different and configuration files are naturally different and not directly compatible with V. I could just copy the missing tiles from PWM set and paste them to the original Gervais sheet and add configurations for those or I could try configuring the PWM set to work with V. Does the PWM set have everything V needs? Not sure which method is the least work method here

Just wanna ask, if there is such a replacement set somewhere? If not, then I'll keep on updating the built in Gervais set and maybe release an updated Gervais set for Vanilla at some point, if there is interest for it.

I updated the Gervais tileset to account for the Vanilla 3.2 changes a couple of months ago. Old Forest Trees are included. Are you looking at the tile set from the current nightlies?

Haven't checked the nightlies for quite some time, just wanted to play some plain 4.2. If the nightlies has an updated gervais set, then that pretty much solves my needs. Thanks, I'll check the nighlies.

And looks like there's almost a complete Gervais set in nightlies. Excellent. Looks like the about only thing missing is the new food variety and I assume those are coming since there are already placeholders there. Thanks for these.

Got pretty far tileswise until shapechanged Beorn appeared as a letter. Browsed through tangar's selection for a suitable body, chopped the head from non-changed Beorn and there you go. One ugly walking bear with Beorn head.

Yup, I noticed that one. It's a bit fuzzy, looks too much like an apeman and is kind of partial (can't find a better word, I mean that the right side of the creature is sort of thinner). Where does it originate from? It's not from the Gervais set, right? Maybe just taking a bear and emphasizing it someway might be the best solution.

To each his own.. I love this bear and it feels proper for Beorn. I don't see where did you found an ape there or why it's fuzzy to you. It's bear standing on hind legs; it's how bears do typically; and especially it's right for Beorn. You can't mix up it with other bears, as it's standing. I don't recall where I took it; from DCSS I suppose.

Of couse, you are welcome to create your own version of tileset The more different tilesets - the merrier.

Considering your bear - it's head not bear's at all. It had pointy ears, red eyes.. More like a gremlin to me. No offence I'm big bear lover myself, it's my favorite animals, so it's pretty important topic to me (as you could notice at the avatar lol)

I'm terribly sorry, if I offended you. Did not mean to do that in any way. And you are absolutely right that these are matters of an opinion. You've done quite a job here in putting basically all Gervais work into one set, finessing the set and even adding more tiles from other sources.

And yes, as I said, my mock up is one ugly bear indeed. More of as werewolf to be honest . What I had in mind there was trying to find some resemblance between different forms of Bearn, not showing off in any way.

Np, we are good Of couse, there could be done a lot of improvements in different monsters. So having several different tilsets is good, as from each one could be taken the best stuff. Atm I'm plundering new version DCSS tileset https://crawl.develz.org/download.htm . Before I used old version (~5 y.o.), new one got loads of cool stuff

Indeed. I have not looked at dcss tiles in detail earlier. Thanks for the tip. There's a nice grey bear in both versions. The older is a bit more intimidating though. The sort of annoying difference when comparing to the Gervais tiles is the more clean look in Gervais tiles. There's a lot more dithering used in the dcss tiles. Can't really complain here though, can't really produce anything like these without a massive amount of time.
