Suspending Neoband development, probably for good

    Yep... Sorry.

    The problem is simple:
    - The Vanilla codebase is not amenable to easily doing what I want
    - I no longer have the free time to wrestle with it
    - I have exhausted the current game's possibilities and no longer find it entertaining

Hey, it's not like it had a major fan base anyway.

I may try to cobble together another (hopefully better) variant, or maybe not. Depends a lot on how much time I have. I am working rather long hours at the moment, and like to fill up my off time with things a bit more socially relevant than computer games... But we will see.

In any case, the source code will stay up on Gitorious:

in case anyone wants to fiddle around with it. Have fun!

    *puts neoband on hardrive*
    He did the mash.
    He did the morgoth mash.
    The morgoth mash.
    It was an angband smash.

The usual yardstick for variant success is if someone else plays it besides the maintainer, so you were successful

The aim is for post-restructure Angband to be very variant-friendly if you do ever want to have another go. Caramelfudgeband, maybe.

        *looks for win7 version*

FWIW it's easy to compile on Windows:
          - Install MinGW with MSys: http://mingw.org/
          - Open the MSys terminal and cd into the game's directory
          - Run './configure' and 'make'
          - Wait a few minutes for compile to finish, move the executable out of the src directory, and run it

You can also commit to Git from a Windows machine, using MSysGit: http://msysgit.github.io/
That's a bit awkward last I tried, but it works.

Well, twenty days later I've got some new ideas and some free time, so I'm gonna do a bit more work on it. Let's see how this goes...

Edit: N/M. Neoband is really not amenable to adding much in the way of new stuff. I think bookless casting was about as far as I could go with V, given my current programming skills.

Edit 2: one more try dammit. Let's see what I can do if I try to be fiendishly clever.

Edit 3: I give up. This code is too gnarly.

Maybe talk to Nick about this, especially since he's on the forefront of Vanilla Angband?
