    NPP 32x32 tileset screenshots

Here are some screenshots of the NPP tileset Buzzkill and I have been working on for the last couple months. While we do not have Shockbolt's artistic gifts, we think it came out looking pretty nice.

Here is a level full of lava, fire walls, some steaming water and boiling mud. (Obviously this is a wizard mode character. )

A lesser vault, and he is being chased by Azathoth and Osse, Herald of Ulmo. There are some NPP "smart traps" in the vault, and on the top right is the detect trap edge.

I think I recognize that staff in the "forest" screen shot, I tried to design tiles (staffs, rods, wands and rings mostly) for FA a while back and that looks a lot like one I came up with (and sent to Buzzkill at some point). I'm glad they could come to use. Does all flavours of staffs, rings etc have unique tiles?

Yes, you are correct. My apologies. We did that back in December, and I forgot where they came from. I think we used your rings as well. I remember drawing a bunch of rings, and then Buzzkill sent me yours, and now I don't remember which set we went with. But I need to give you proper credit for your work. Again, I am sorry for that oversight.

All flavored items (mushrooms, potions, rods, rings, wands, amulets, staves etc) have unique tiles now. I drew plenty of extra, and they are mapped in flavor.txt to make sure there are more than enough for most or all of the *bands.

In addition to the NPP/Unangband terrains Buzzkill drew, we also drew at least more 100 monsters that be of use if many variants, and even vanilla. The vanilla DVG tileset has many duplicate monster and object pairs that shared a tile. The strangest pair was a cyclops sharing a tile with one of the greater demons (two eyed). But there were many more. We also drew some tiles that didn't seem to fit well (Sauron looked like a genie coming out of a lamp, and Morgoth looked more like a court jester than a master of darkness.)

BTW: Buzzkill has plans to add more tiles so this can be used in other variants as well. His goal is to create a "universal tileset" for use in as many variants as possible variants. I will probably continue to help out as well. There is something nice about drawing tiles as opposed to coding. I guess because you don't have to de-bug a tile.

Eventually I want to work shockbolt's tileset into NPP, but I first have a little codebase updating to do.

Don't worry, I'm glad they come to use. And if they're incorporated in the universal tile set it's even better, then they might even eventually end up where I wanted them in the first place (FA).

If you want to give me credit somewhere you can use "Thapper" as the credit, that's enough.

Thapper(@oook.cz) (just now) received a brief mention in the graf-dvg.prf header which I just rewrote. However, it probably won't see won't see the light of day until the next NPP release occurs.

For you and anyone else interested in staying on the cutting edge, the tileset is still being tweaked.

The latest distributed release (NPP 0.5.4 beta 2) is available at
                  www.mediafire.com/buzzkill/NPPAngband 0.5.x.

The latest WIP version is at
                  www.mediafire.com/buzzkill/NPPAngband 0.5.x/beta.
The WIP version will contain the very latest changes and will be the only set of files to be updated until NPP is re-released. It may at times, contain 'work in progress' tiles, but should remain very playable throughout.

Those aren't actual web addresses, but I couldn't figure out how to remove the hyperlink in the post, so you'll probably have to manually navigate your way there. Start with the link in my signature.

As always, anyone interested in contributing new or replacement tiles for NPP, Vanilla (or any other variant which supports 32x32 tiles), please contact me. Comments also welcome.

@NPPAngband: Jeff, I just downloaded 054b2 and got a look at some of the new spell effects in action. Very nice. I don't know what exactly I was expecting, but my humble expectations were surpassed.

Does anyone else feel that the 'cobblestone' floor used in town needs to be darkened a bit? It whole town seemed a bit bright for me the first time I saw it.
