TY. I've updated my file to match yours. Posted to mediafire, but there's no need for you to grab it.

Updated the FAangband prf for compatibility with FA131. No changes to the tileset itself.

@NPPAngband... also included K:453 in the NPP prf.

I was looking at the tileset again and found a minor problem: non-unique vampire tile (0x94:0xB3) and Thuringwethil, the Vampire Messenger (0x95:0xBC) are the same tiles. Could you modify the tile for Thuringwethil so it looks more "unique"?

While we're at it, mystics (0x84:0x98) and master mystics (0x84:0xA2) also look the same. Maybe modify master mystic tile a bit?

I haven't done any tile work in a while and have no plans on modifying the tile set in the near future. However, I will keep these suggestions in mind when I get back into it. Thanks.

Another minor update to UT32. This fixes the LoS lighting problems with FA 131 as noted by clouded in a different thread. I also back-ported these same changes to FA 127. You know where to get it. These changes affect the two FA prf files only (127 & 131). No changes to any other files have been made.

Another minor update. This one fixes some mis-mapped traps in FA131. These changes affect only the FA131 prf file.

I made a minor update to the tileset for PWMAngband: I added 3 tiles at the end of the last row (dark elven necromancer, thuringwethil, master mystic) and updated graf-dvg.prf accordingly.

Adeed your three tiles and even updated your Thuringwethil mapping. Updated master mystic, and Thuringwethil across all variants. Added new terrain tiles for FA (for use at Nick's discretion) rubble on grass, ruins on grass and ruins on soil.

These are extremely minor changes for 99% of players.

I just looked at the UT32 tiles for the first time, I'd like to share some of my opinion about this.

If we're using DG tiles, then DG-only style should be included there.
David G. did a mammoth task and there's enough of his own work to build various other monsters & objects if needed. Years ago I contacted DG about this and he said that I could freely modify or create other stuff as long as it was used in Angband. I created about 30 monsters and objects, mimicking his style so now you can't say which is his or mine.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work of others just think that we shouldn't mix other styles and create artistically different kind of stuff for what is basically a pure DG set.

I appreciate your opinion and your past work. I love the DG tiles and almost exclusively play variants that support a 32x32 tileset. So, I made it my mission, once upon a time, to create a tileset (using the DG tileset as a jumping of point) for every variant I had the good fortune to enjoy. This started out innocently enough by just duplicating and modifying current DG tiles. Eventually I had the brilliant idea to merge all these tilesets into one master tileset, commonly known as UT32. It's was just a heck of a lot easier (despite the extensive prf editing) than maintaining x number of different tilesets.

The main obstacle in creating UT32 that would pay proper respect to DG is... I can't draw a respectable looking tile to save my life. Additionally, the sheer number of tiles needed to fill out variant tilesets is staggering. The only way I saw to move forward was to "cheat", and even this shortcut took a considerable amount of time. Since these tilesets started out as a private collection, for my use only, I had no initial remorse. I found tiles everywhere and they cluttered my desktop. I soon found that although I couldn't create originals, I was somewhat proficient at modifying the works of others, and have never been shy about admitting it, or stating bluntly that many of the tiles included are not of my own creation, so things may even be a bit worse than you anticipated.

After UT32 was "assembled", I made it available to this community via posts here on OOOK, and to the best of my knowledge this is the only place that it is readily available. It is certainly the only place I made it known.

Vanilla Angband is, (once again) to the best of my knowledge (I haven't paid much attention to UT32 lately), distributed with a "clean" DG-only tileset, with the exception of one tile IIRC.

Other variants that are supported generally (TTBOMK) don't distribute UT32 as part of their package. I kind of discourage it for the reasons stated in the 2nd paragraph. NPP, I believe, is the only exception to this and uses a "clean" custom built DG-hybrid tileset.

I haven't touched UT32 in quite a while now. I mostly just occasionally haunt these forums and the inhabitants thereof. However, if anyone out there has pixel art abilities and would like to contribute tiles that are either missing or that would better fit with the DG style, I would gladly crack open the vault, dust of the png, and make the changes necessary. I am not very keen on the thought of removing existing tiles and replacing them with nothing.

I hope that you don't find my tileset hackery very offensive. It was never my intent. I do see where you are coming from and apologize for any unintended disrespect.

I have made some tiles, mostly by drawing on DG tileset and/or the very tileset mentioned in this thread, and I have at least two tiles you might like here:

I have also done a lot of work on the 32x32 tiles lately. Some of the tiles didn't quite match the monster they are being used for. For example:

The nightmare creature is supposed to be a skeletal horse with fiery eyes, but the tile for it resembles a living bear-like creature standing on its hind legs.

The ettin is supposed to be a two headed troll, but the tile for both the ettin and skeletal ettin has only one head.

The kobolds all resemble large trolls, rather than the small dog-like creatures they are described as. I made tiles for all the player kobold race-class combinations, as well as all the kobold monsters.

I recolored a lot of the tiles where appropriate. For example, all tiles containing gold, including treasure, golden crowns, the One Ring, gold potions and even gold dragons, did not have any actual gold-colored pixels. Same for silver and bronze.

The phial now looks like the phial from the LOTR movies, and the Star of Elendil used to be a 5 pointed star.

I used other dvg tiles as the starting point, and largely cut-and-pasted from other dvg tiles, to preserve the original artists style.

I did a lot with the 8x8 tileset as well. I have a couple die-hard NPP players who will prefer the 8x8 set. I don't know if players still use that for Angband.

Buzzkill - let me know if you are interested in the revised 32x32 tiles.
