    Nothing Happens.

In an IronMan (IronMage) setting, would it be conceivable to have the '<' stairs working as an "Alter Reality" spell, such that ones climbs to a new level of the same depth?

Seems like there could be a better message, at least, like, "the way is blocked off".

Probably not. That change would make ironman much easier.

    That's a good suggestion.

Part of the point of Ironman is that you have a limited supply of levels in which to power your character up. Alter Reality means that once you reach dlvl 98 you can just sit there indefinitely scumming for gear instead of having to push on with what you have.

But yeah, changing the message sounds like a good idea to me.

A better solution is not to generate the up staircases in the first place.

My last IronMage game, I was U-farming from 4600' on.. never got any of the 4 power rings to drop. I culled 1,000s of Us... what a downer that was. I took out my frustration on Morgoth. He didn't have a good day either.

"Alter Reality", as an affect wouldn't have much an effect for gear scumming, in my opinion, especially when Priests are the ones who can most effectively do that with the spell & Sense Surroundings. Personally, I love U-Farming; it precludes the need for stair scumming, and I can dictate terms of engagement making it a lot safer for the pl@yer.

Anyhoooow - changing the message at least or not generating the stairs until the Big Man goes down is a good idea.

Curious though, the '<' still don't work after Morgoth dies, yet, one can at least recall to town and revisit the General Store.

That's another good point. This wouldn't be hard at all... I will see if I can get it working this weekend.

So the old adage becomes "1. Kill Morgoth 2. Buy lantern

"Whaddaya mean, you'll only give me 20AU for it? It's barely used! Only a little dinged up, and the Ainur bloodstains add character! S'practically an heirloom, it is. I'd keep it for myself if I weren't going to nick out back and commit suicide soon's I'm done here."
