    Walking around a shoe shop

    Hello.

I just found Feanor for about fourth time after 3.1.x rarity tweaks. That's too many in too little time, it drops the Wow! -factor of top artifact like Feanor quite a bit.

What was the fix for this? There are shoes everywhere. It sometimes really feels like walking around a shoe shop like someone here so accurately said. Half of the armor-items in ground are shoes of some sort.

If this hasn't been fixed in dev editions yet, I strongly suggest that it gets fixed.

There was some typo or something in object.txt, where the A: line for N:131:& Pair~ of Leather Boots gave an allocation of 110 rather than 20. It has been fixed in the nightlies. You can change the 110 to 20 in your 3.2.0 install easily enough.

I believe it's traditional to throw sho(v)e(l)s at the bad guys in some cultures.

I guess it's stuff like this why I'd prefer artifact rarity to be decoupled from base object rarity. We'd just need to create all artifacts like special artifacts, right?

Thanks, changed that. It seems that only leather boots had the wrong allocation line. I was sure that they all did, I have seen so many shoes in my last game. However that is enough for getting too many artifacts, three out of four artifact boots are leather boots.

There used to be 3 types of boots, with increasing rarities so that total = (7/4) * leather boots. Now there are 4 with same rarity but different depths, so if everything else was constant that would be an increase more than doubling total boots down deep. Of course, things aren't equal, so who knows how much boots in total have changed.

I think this was an intentional change made to increase the likelihood of finding boots of speed. That is to say, my muddled memory has a hint I read something along those lines a long time ago.
