Staff pickup problem

I went down the stairs and met a bunch of sleeping novice priests and tried to go away. One woke up and cast fear at me and i tried to pickup a staff. When i got on the staff, the game crashed. I tried again and it crashed. I'm using Windows 2000 professional.
EDIT: It works without being afraid. I'll post a savefile in zip format.

I don't see this on OS X--I suspect it's a memory error that Windows can't deal with but *nix ignores. I will try to use valgrind to see if I can debug it.

This (and maybe the other issue) have possibly been fixed in the current version of HEAD.
