Artist makes a roguelike (and hopefully learn programming)

Long story short: I've been in love with roguelike games ever since I played Rogue/Moria, then Angband and a few others in between. I also spent some time making a tilesheet for Angband some years ago.
I've had a few attempts at learning how to program games in the past, to bring some sketched out smaller projects to life, but never got that far as my understanding of the logic only went so far, so I put that dream on ice.
Then due to chance, I discovered Visual Studio Code and it's AI co-pilot two weeks ago and with great help from that I've now got a dungeon generator going + more. It's been both fun and extremely frustrating so far, but it's slowly resembling a skeleton of what I want to make, before pouring in the rest of the elements such as more monsters, rooms, items/objects, spells, traps.

In this process I'm redesigning some of the sprites I've made and will add the new versions/replace those already in the tilesheet now and then as I'm building this game, it's been 12 years since the tilesheet was made and some of them need updating.

*edit: this new forum seems to screw up images that are uploaded to it, looking into posting some screenshots later this week hosted on my own website.*

      Thank You NIck!

Retrieved my ftp login details and got it setup faster than I thought. First screenshot of my game project coming here.
I made a goblin sprite yesterday along with a new orc sprite. Made another orc sprite today, going to tackle the Overworld level and it's graphics next I think:

This little fun feature took me in circles for the better part of an evening: creating code to add tall objects in dungeons then have the north areas trigger 50% opacity to reveal the player character and/or monsters stepping behind them.

Ignore the floor under the pillars, I've currently added pillars as floorless png tiles with transparency, triggering the default tile to be rendered under them currently.

Pillar 2 tiles tall, nothing behind it:

Pillar with player seen behind it(Monster is also shadowed as it is out of line-of-sight from the Player character's view):
