Yay for FAAngband stuff, as always. Will the competition be angband.live only or combined with uploads to oook?

Oops, just spotted the file's downloadable from here - http://angband.oook.cz/competition.php. As you were.

It is as you have noticed the same as in previous competitions this time. That might change in future - I'll be making up new rules at some point. I had a few pet peeves about the rules as they are, and now it's my job to decide whether to implement my ideas there's a good chance I'll do that.

A couple of tips for starting:
          • Detect Life also detects trees, so it's really handy for finding the path back to town
          • Finding the path back first, then exploring gives you the best chance of surviving early trips into the wilderness

Also, go straight to the Travelling Merchant (shop 0) and order all the books.

            I'm quite enjoying this variant.

Apart from all the hounds and the total inconvenience of not having all those Vanilla interface improvements. Too bad the Vanilla maintainer and FAAngband maintainer are on such outs with each other....
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Yeah not sure what he was thinking there, I can see empty squares where he could of fit more hounds in.

This was fun, though I always had the feeling that turn-count comp doesn't play well with the FA experience. Not sure how much teleporting across wilderness allowed me to beat Philip's time & certainly someone who milked it more or visited less places will beat mine.

So bringing up the question of ranking winners again, I guess you need to mark the top spot with something, like quickest or otherwise... but perhaps you can also mark other categories? Like lowest character level etc. etc.

Although it wouldn't really be enforceable unless everyone were required to play on angband.live, I'd kind of like to sort winners by number of attempts.
