    Preserve mode

It would be interesting to have a comp with preserve mode off. I think many players, including me, are quite addicted to preserve mode and would find it quite a challenge to play without it.

Sure, I'd be happy to try that. Although the next comp is likely to be sangband, and I'm not sure how much harder you want to make that variant

You could always make it a SAngband competition from the 0.9.4 days (I think that was the version number) before maintainer #2 took over and hit everything on the player's side with a nerf mallet. I remember crafting copper Heavy Crossbows that gave +6 to stats and similar levels of madness.

Fennelling, I have heard it described, and I think it was only jewelry.

I'd prefer a modern Sang comp, it is such a fabulous variant (and in fact not nearly as hard as O).

How would you feel about making a savefile for a modern sangband comp?

Fennelling, as I recall, had greater potential to make ridiculous things over the long term as you basically fed all of your items into each other, but straight-up crafting still made powerful items early on. Copper crossbows that were not very useful launchers but gave huge stat bonuses are definitely something I remember doing.

yeah compiled latest source from skills-angband-read-only svn/trunk from googlecode and dose't read savefile, and then went and compile the official 1.0.2 release straight from the website, and it still dosen't read the savefile for that version either....selecting option b). load savefile...and tried typing in 161 for the savefile name and also tried typing in Andre as savefile name and dosen't read it. I have tried both curses compile and sdl compilitions of the game and neither works, sdl version main screen is off center on my laptop for some reason, windows version usually works under wine tricks...I am loathe to try and use winetricks however.

Use 1.0.2 and copy the savefile to lib/save/1000.161 (or replace 1000 by whatever the output of "id -u" is if it's not 1000). Then run with 'src/sangband -u161'. That worked for me.
