Well, the edit files will tell you what a monster can do. It won't tell you what each tag means though.

You can generate spoilers from the death screen (IIRC some of them don't work properly, but the monster spoilers do; I'm currently travelling and can't test properly). Also, the Oangband spoilers are mostly fairly accurate. Also what Derakon said.

I'm sorry for being stupid. I don't know what this means. I have to make a character and then kill it off in order to get spoilers? I'm sure I could read the source files but that's a bit more effort than I'm probably willing to go to. The roguelike games I like best are those that have online websites that automatically parse the source files and display information on monsters, items, etc.

I will try it! If I can't manage to die, then I guess I'll just win by accident.

Yeah. To my mind, this is one of the downsides of variant fragmentation. When you've got more investment in a single version, you can have lots of tools and documentation and the like. When you have lots of people each doing their own variant, then you get perhaps more creativity and variation, but you're a bit shorter on resources. Just one of those tradeoffs that exists in the real world.

Ah, so that's how to fix the failed file dump issue...

Getting to this late, my back went out a couple days ago and now I have time! Not going to try for speed, since out of all entries only on has made it to end game, and died. So any winner will win...

So trying to figure out if magical throw will be handy. Seems to take 2 rounds, and always misses. Using daggers at townies...

Hmm - it should take one round, and always hit (IIRC). I'll check and get back to you.

All right, I can confirm that Magical Throw takes 2 turns - that's a bug. The code seems to indicate that it should always hit monsters the player can see; I will test to see what actually happens.

                      Hey Nick,

Don't know how you did it, but you now appear to be leading your own competition!

Not any more - it's all fixed now.

If it's all fixed now, and I'm sure you're right, how is the position calculated?
My Glarr4 has a lower xp/turn rate than my Glarr5 but is ranked above.

Also, Glarr5 died on dlvl 30, but max depth is listed at 26.

Not that it matters, he's still dead!

Ah, ignore me - it's score/turn isn't it? (like it says above the ladder, duh!).

XP for first monster of every type killed - nothing for subsequent kills. So optimise score basically by killing as many different types of monster as possible.

Thanks Nick. Don't know how I didn't work that out for myself!
