I requested it so people could finish at their own pace around their holiday plans. Ranger Jeff should be able to catch me if he finishes out, and I didn't want him to not do so just because of a time limit.

Also, I don't know the multiplier for vulnerable creatures.

          • Have the game tell you that your home is full before prompting for the number of items to be dropped.

          • The inscription '!*' does not prompt you to confirm the usage of the item. '!r', however, works correctly.
          • The option "Notify on object recharge" appears to be broken.
          • Is *slay evil* broken? When fighting evil creatures, my Lucerne Hammer (2d5) (+8,+10) was doing the same damage as a Cutlass of *Slay Evil* (1d7) (+7,+7).
          • Manual: Descriptions of classes: The description of the rogue class refers to both rogues and brigands.

There's no "super slay evil" brand; it'd be ridiculously powerful if it did exist. *Slay Evil* gives the same x2 multiplier as Slay Evil; it just gets some additional bonuses on the side (looks like it's a WIS bonus and the Blessed flag). So your Cutlass is doing 2d7 + 7 damage against evil, while your Hammer is doing 2d5 + 10 damage against everything.

Let me work on something. I have wanted to do this for a while but have never been happy enough with a partial approach to do it. NPP 070 is going to focus on objects, and I had planned on a total overhaul then, including things that will allow me to simply all me to give the player much greater detail all the damage possibilities from all combat objects.

I think we have waited until the end because it sometimes depends on the quantity or object being dropped. Your home may be full, but the object you want to drop stacks with something in the home. Or, it may stack, but you want to to drop 50 arrows into a stack on another 50 arrows, which won't fit. So we have always just kept it simple and checked after the choice is made. Is there a version that does it differently where I can steal the code?

It works, but you also have to have the object inscribed with '!!'.

Actually there are alot of them like this. The color of the trap does not provide hints as to what the trap does. I am quite impressed at your attention to detail, however. So I do welcome you pointing out things like this, and thank you again for providing the list.

Yes, same thing. Kill undead is a x5 multiplier.

I posted updated windows binaries and source code at teh NPP forums for Comp 132 that fixes a couple issues. Note the savefiel is not included this time, and is available from the competition page. Make sure you make a backup of your active savefile before downloading and unzipping these files, so you don't accidentally wipe out your savefile.

All of the changes are pretty minor, but the most relevant ones are:
Wilderness levels should be much more reasonable now. (It is a pity these were broken for the comp. I think they are by far the most fun quest type, now that they work).
The druid elemental spell now works properly. Before it only worked for 5 turns.
Fixed multiple bugs in the quest generation reward system. It should work better now, and won't overwrite the bookshop inventory when the player fame approaches 2000 or so.

                  The links are:

                  (source)

                  (windows winary)

                  The complete changelist is:

Special artifacts are no longer offered as quest rewards.
Increase the potential bonus from deferred rewards by 50%.
Added help file descriptions for the new quest rewards.
Adjusted Ancient blue, green, and white dragons to 65 spellower (down from 100).
Added more appropriate messages for when breathing monsters use beam attacks.
The object selection menu now includes object weight.
verify_leave_quest now verifies before casting word of recall spell on quest level.
change default setting for some options.
Revised the scale for guild reputation and player titles based on new quest system.
Helpfiles now specify that poison resistance prevents the player from getting poisoned.
Various tweaks to wilderness and labyrinth quests.
Bugfix: Typos on the mage darkness storm name and plasma bolt spell short description.
BUgfix: The druid spell elemental weapon only lasted for 5 turns.
Bugfix: The guild sometimes offered dungeon spellbooks the player already has seen.
Bugfix: Objects created and rejected as potential guild rewards still counted towards the total rewards offered.
Bugfix: Removed obsolete reference to old store inventory system.
Bugfix: The guild sometimes overwrite bookstore inventory when generating rewards for players
with a very high flayer fame, causing the game to crash when the bookshop inventory was shuffled.
Bugfix: Fix inconcistencies of telling players about objects theyare not aware of yet.
Bugfix: Unidentified flavored special artifacts were not dislaying thier flavors.
Bugfix: The game sometimes set up a quest below max depth (6400').
Bugfix: Monster messages were sometimes coming in the wrong order (The monster attacks you. The monste wakes up.)
Bugfix: Fix multiple grammar issues of spells being described as "casts spells which cast....".
Bugfix: A shopkeeper's race was describes as "Dundan".
Bugfix: Fixed typos in the brigand and rogue descriptions in the helpfiles.
Bugfix: Verify using the !* inscription wasn't working.

Sorry about that. I tested it for a bit and everything seemed fine.

Is there a gap in the bookshop inventory?

What were you doing when it froze?

Please feel free to send me the savefile and a general description of what happened. Thanks,

I was still down on 99 when I had last saved, and was clearing the level with the new version. Got through half of it, and I believe the last thing I did when the game froze was hit m, to cast mbe on a chest.

It is the bookshop-crash. The guild had already overwritten a slot in the bookshop, so it crashed when the when the bookkeeper inventory is shuffled. I will send you your savefile back with a bookshop with proper inventory, so it won't happen again. (The fix in the game above prevents it from happening, but I need to manually fix any broken savefile.

Done. I had alot of requests silimar to this, and I finally got around to it/ NPP now gives much more extensive details of all aspects of combat for all weapon types, including melee, throwing, and using bow/ammunition, and the various poissible slays, brands, and rogue/brigand combat bonuses for suing slings and throwing weapons.

If you inspect ammo and don't have the right type of launcher (for example, you are inspecting crossbow bolts, and you have a sling wielded), the game just assumes an ordinary light crossbow (+0, +0) for damage purposes.

Argh! Missed the deadline! Well, I didn't make it to the finish anyway, because real live kept interfering and also I was too cautious about going deeper, as always... Comments for now:

With Bark Skin, playing this ranger felt like playing a melee fighter for most of the game so far (MaxDepth: 1200 ft.). On the other hand, I'm not sure whether I would have completed the creeping coins quests without it, even with the very early RPois thanks to Colluin. Speaking of creeping coins quests: Three creeping coins quests in a row?! That provided for some interesting shopping tours early on.

Clearing out the orc and ogre strongholds was a piece of cake, with the exception of fighting some of the orc uniques and trying to kill the ogre mages as quickly as possible lest they destroyed too much of my equipment. However, like I said, I probably spent way more time for preparations than most players.

The first and so far only wilderness quest was very frustrating. I quaffed six potions of speed, made generous use of consumables if enemies turned out to be obstinate and had the advantage of being native to most of the terrain, and still I could only collect 21 scrolls, four of which had been destroyed by elemental attacks. In the end I was spending a lot of time on one of the last remaining isles, desperately waiting for more scroll bearers to blink onto that island, but it was all in vain. I think I'll skip the wilderness quests.

I'm currently clearing out a cave dweller stronghold, and the welcoming commitee has proven to be quite combative. I'll post another dump here when I've finished playing.

Was that a wilderness quest before the update, or after? Agreed they were unplayable before that, but I tried them with several characters of various strengths and depths and they were pretty fair (and fun, IMHO).

Edit: Maybe rangers shouldn't have the barkskin spell. It was meant for druids, who have very little HP or melee ability.
