    Competition 131

Competition 131 is now available from the competition page; it is an FAangband Easterling Ranger.

Note that comp 130 still has about three days to go.

I just updated www.mediafire.com/buzzkill with the a fix for FA131 32x32 tile problems. It seems the the tileset (included in distro) was a little out of date, and the maintainer also made prf changes against an out of date prf. All legacy items/monsters/features seem OK now, though there may a few new 'things' that aren't accounted for (which should display as ASCII). I believe this also welcomes the 'new' canine and feline tiles to FA. Comments welcome.

EDIT: AS ALWAYS, THERE ARE MANY VERSIONS OF THE TILESET AVAILABLE (BECAUSE IT'S ALSO MY BACKUP REPO).
EDIT: BE SURE TO GRAB THE ONE WITH THE MOST RECENT DATE.

How do I use the buzzkill tiles on a mac? I can't seem to find where I need to dump them.

Control-click on the FAangband icon, and choose 'Show package contents'. Then go to Resources and then lib; the .prf file needs to be called graf-dvg.prf, and go into the pref folder, and the 32x32.png file needs to go both directly in Resources, and in lib/xtra/graf.

Hurrah - happily, the savefile appears to work OK (initially, at least) with v1.3.0 too.
Nick - are there any game-breaking errors in 1.3.0, necessitating an upgrade to 1.3.1? (not found any yet, while getting to DL80 or so with another character)

Hey, we're at the same version number.

Comp 131, version 1.3.1, there's some number magic there.

Not really; the bugfix list is here.

And again. Another update. This one fixes some mis-mapped traps. Changes made to FA131 prf file only.

In the shopping dialog, when buying ammo, the quantity you have on hand is displayed incorrectly, as zero. I assume this happens because the ammo in the quiver isn't recognized as being there.

Also when viewing an item in inventory I see... "Bought in a store in %s Level %d".

EDIT: and creeping coins are detected by detect life.

So I got killed in part because I got paralyzed and when I got out of it I didn't get my turn...I just got a " You are too afraid to attack." Then I got paralyzed again and killed by the an air hound *head desk* I feel like I should have at least gotten a chance to do something. Is that a bug? Because it seems like one. Normally if you can't do one thing you get a chance to do another

No, this is WAD (for fear) in most variants. It is an exception to the norm though. I hate when it happens too. It usually takes me a few turns to figure out what's going on. Like hey, why won't this guy die... he just picking me apart and I'm not even making a dent. Ohhhh.

Hmm, but the paralyization wore off for a round and I had an action. I tried to hit the homuclos...however you spell it, then I got the "you are too afraid to attack". But I never got to do something else. It seems like I should have had an action.

It is the standard way of handling it, and I can think of at least one reason. Imagine you had no See Invisible, and were made afraid by a ghost. You try to move, but get the "There is something scary in the way" message; this tells you where the ghost is, and you can use a ranged attack on it.

I'm not sure if there is a similar problem with visible monsters.

                            I guess. I'll check.

                            Yes, embarrassing. Fixed in development.

WAD - they're alive. FA doesn't have the V or NPP mimic thing - one area where it is arguably behind...

Trying to make an illegal move should cost energy for another reason: otherwise, when fighting ghosts in corridors, you just walk into every wall and either automatically hit the ghost or narrow it down to a 50/50 shot of where it is.
