Urrkhud unhappy. Nick says Urrkhud is stupid warrior. Urrkhud is a smart ranger. Warrior's dumb, cannot read. Urrkhud smart, can read red books. Green books are weird though.
In all serious, there was a typo in the original post. The character is actually a half-orc ranger.
Now that would be an interesting use for INT -- smarter characters can arrange their packs more efficiently and therefore can carry more.
(The limit of 40 items per stack was added mostly so that the quiver would be properly balanced; it very rarely affects any other item type besides ammo)
Well I made it to dlvl 8 but had no arrows left. and hadn't bought a word of recall scroll. i got so deep with a scroll of deep descent (read unknown scroll), could have made it if i had arrows - was level 7.
I want to do even better before I upload a char dump, though. It's fun.
How do shops work in this competition? Can you only buy, or can you sell? I tried to sell mushrooms once but got 0 gold for each. Was I in the wrong shop, or was it racism?

You can sell items for 0 gold; this is primarily useful to identify them for free, if you can lug them back to town. To compensate, gold drops and finds are higher than in games with selling.

You can post multiple dumps to the competition ladder. There's no limit to the number of characters you can "enter". A character of the same name (posted by the same user) will overwrite a previously posted character of the same name, so if you do decide to post multiple entries (and want them preserved individually) be sure to rename your character in game. All this is of course entirely at your discretion.
Hi all. I am a bit new to Vanilla and the 3.4 competition seemed like as good a way as any to familiarize myself with the game. I do have question about the rules, however. The rules state that the source must not be modified. I think the reason for this is fairly obvious. That said, I had updated my source to play different music in the town/dungeon. Is it fair to assume that a non-gameplay related change such as this would be ok, or shall i go back to the lonely, quiet dungeon...
Umm .. not to be too much of a PITA, but since this comp is supposed to be scored in "standard turns," is it possible for the ladder to actually be sorted in standard turns? And maybe have the ladder display standard turns (rather than game turns) ?
Competition 128 is now officially over - congratulations to ranger jeff for an exciting last-minute win, and to ewan and bron for game wins. Apologies also that the ladder sorted by the wrong type of turns.
