    Competition 91

Competition 91 is now available from the competition page - it is an EyAngband 0.5.2 Felpurr Spellsword.

For newbies like me, Ey was an incredibly successful and innovative variant, and the source of many features in V and other variants (plus some that still haven't been re-used and could be).

Note that the double comp 90/91 still has a few hours to run.

Intresting Never played Ey but it seems to have a lot of content. Experience bar!

Early advice: Don't drink unknown potions. My inventory was full so I drank only one. Turned out to be !disease. By the time I was able to find my way back to town my stats had been drained 20 times..

Could this be the harbinger of an EyAngband maintainer? Ey was my first and only variant until I started in on FA.

I ran into the invisible walls/floors issue with my Vista system. I searched the old threads about this problem, but the number changes in font-win.prf file gave some strange results.

I have changed now the 1/31 to 1/46 (floor) and 1/127 to 1/35 (walls) and it seems to work.

Also, are human supposed to be "l"?

Actually, the experience bar was my innovation. I ripped it straight out of Diablo 2

So.. I found some potion mixing recepies that are actually useful. One even can be used to make money early on (of course I only found that one when I already had 60k in the bank)

Should I post them here? If so would others post their findings too so we can reduce the amount of *id* needed for everyone or would that go against the competition rules.

btw: you can use recepies even if you haven't learned them ingame yet. This would almost never happen outside of a competition though

              . . .. . . . . . .. . . . . .

EDIT : I don't even plan on playing this comp, so my opinion can be entirely disregarded.

It was a serious questions. I don't take notes what flavour is what, so in my second and third game I'll still end up selling that unidentified (lavender) potion of speed. This is basicly the same thing. That said it would be a nice community effort which is why I'm asking.

I think it's a fair question, comps being what they are (I recall one with a character who started with PDSM). If folks agree to the list of combos, fine, if someone objects then we won't do it. Even if it is done, it's still a level playing field for the comp if it's known to all, and that's what counts.

I don't think it is such a big deal. !heal only heals like 120 hp, so you can't really use those in the final battles anyways. Also I'd prefer a fair and square win over one where I had an advantage.

I certainly have no problem with you posting recipes - in fact I learned from your post that there are recipes...

Well I guess I'll post them then. I don't have time to write them all, so I added a screenshot of the alchemy knowledge screen (~4 ingame)

Mi'x'ing potions: Note that the order matters, using the second potion first results in an explosion.

                        Survival:
                        CCW = Berserk + Boldness
Healing = Restore Dexterity + Stealth
Restore Mana = Toughness + Water
                        Toughness(-1 CHR + 1 CON) = Restore Constitution + Salt Water
                        *Healing* = Restore Mana + ???? - **

Apart from !toughness, stat transfer potions have unknown components or transfer the wrong direction (+WIS -CON etc). The stat potions themselfes have unknown components or require other stat potions

Easy money: While there are several potions that can be sold for a profit, this one seems like the easiest:
                        Restore Life Levels (sells for 120) = Stealth(in store for 28) + Boldness(in store for 7)

I didn't know any of these recepies until i was at dlvl40 for healing, !rll, and at dlvl60 for mana.

On learning recepies: Aside from *id* a potion, the character has a random chance (depending on his alchemy stat) to learn the recepy of a potion while drinking it. However it is required for the components to be known. I haven't checked the code, but I have a feeling that actually having drunk the components increases the chance for the recepy to be revealed. (So in a new game I would make sure to drink all the low potions at least once) I assume at least some of the ??? for the lower potions to be deformation, but I'm not going to drink one of those until my charisma is up. !deform is a lot rarer than most of the results, so I don't think it matters.

**I got this by *iding* restore mana, I don't know if that means that the last one is unknown (!life, !aug, !other?) or if it is just not revealed without actually *id* *healing*

*healing* = restore mana + slowness
life = Charisma + slime mold juice

edit: tried mixing life 5 times, and failed all of them. looks like there is another check for the high potions
