Greetings, did I die because the summoned snake died or because of casting at low mana ? If because of the dead snake, ouch..

Both. If a monster you summoned dies, you lose some mana. If you don't have the mana, you lose hit points instead. One of the tips would have mentioned mana debt and blood debt.

whereas the feature 'press any key and I will load your last file' is a great idea, you can make it even better by allowing the player to press 'alt' or 'alt o' or 'alt f', keyboard people get frustrated because pressing alt-o brings up that dead character they just lost..

'Alt O' and 'Alt F' are used in the menu bar as you know of course.

Also, am I the only one that cannot seem to get 'Sting' out of untried status ? I've killed a few dozen monsters now but still it says 'Untried'.

There's http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?group_id=331 which is all known bugs, but I've not been updating it as I should... I generally sweep through the forums and add to it every few weeks. Feel free to report there rather than here if you want feedback on resolution outside of checking the changes.txt.

You activate yourself ('A', '@'). If you browse the Change into Bat spell description, you should see information to this effect in pre4.
