    Competition 71

Competition 71 is now available from the competition section; it is an NPPAngband 0.5.0 Beta6 rev22 (or 24) (seriously) Half-Troll Druid.

Note that comp 70 still has a couple of days to run.

Jaysus winged horrors are tough, even with rNether.

    Couple issues:
    1. Savefile is marked as a cheater. Don't know if this is a problem or not.
    2. Link to download on comp page just routs you back to comp page.

For some reason, NPP's current distribution lacks all terrain features when using DVG graphics. This remedies that problem, barely. There a still a ton of mis-associated terrains, many of which you'll notice immediately, which I'll hopefully get to fixing in the near future. If you absolutely must have graphics, get them here.

Place the graf-dvg.prf in the NPP/lib/pref folder.
Place the NPP.ini in the main folder with the executable (optional, but it's a good starting point).

You'll also need to grab 32x32.bmp and mask32.bmp from here.
Place them in the NPP/lib/xtra/graf folder. ENJOY.

Just a note here that Diego has updated the download page so it has revision 24 of both source and windows executable.

OK. Here's the update. A major improvement. Everything that shows as a graphic now shows as the correct, or at least workable, graphic (hopefully). Some (of the rarer) terrain types (not native to vanilla) still have no graphic, but IMO, it's very playable. I've only tinkered with the terrain, assuming that the monsters and items are OK. Use the links in the quote above.

Competition 71 is now officially finished; congratulations to ramela for the only game win (which I'm guessing must be something like his 20th in NPP).

Naw. I lost count around 10, so this is somewhere between 11 and 15. (It could have been 20-something if I had as much time for NPP as I had a few years back.)

Regarding Morinin, the Heavy Crossbow Ronen was the key to early pert of the comp game. Once I got Nature's Fury, the focus changed to abusing Ulmo's Wrath on the various Dragon pits, that are to be found on the deepeest levels. I scummed heavily for them in order to find a better kit and to gather enough supplies to fight the deep uniques.

Ulmo's Wrath allows a druid to deal massive amounts of damage to a large number of monsters that have no Line of Sight on the Druid. It is particularly powerfull against pits. Now that the Comp is over, I'm definetly recommending to Diego that UW should be neutered.
