You know, turn it off when you're in a tough spot, low on supplies, out of arrows. Turn it on again when you recall back to the dungeon fully healed and stocked, or should one have to pick a setting for the entire game and leave it?
Your use of the autoscummer is up to you.

A note on light sources - as an Unlight character you get bonuses (stealth, AC and ranged damage reduction) in darkness. You don't get these bonuses if you're on a lit grid, or you are wielding a light source.

This is standard behaviour for FA in Windows - I'm surprised it didn't happen in the O comp, actually. Sorry about that. Yet another reason to play in Linux

    EDIT: Yes, pav, or BSD.

Just a heads up for people playing comp 65:

None of these is perfect, I'm afraid...

The mage books - Conjurings & Tricks, Incantations & Illusions, and Sorcery & Evocations. (It took me a minute to figure them out too.)

    1. You may want to move to (or at least set a recall point in) a big town at some point (for the better shops). Belegost is probably the best bet at first, although Menegroth and Gondolin shopkeepers will probably be friendlier to ents.
    2. You can order scrolls potions and town books in the Travelling Merchant (shop 0) in small towns. My first step was to order !Speed and C&T and I&I (rogues don't use S&E); I also ordered ?Recall and ?tLevel in case the alchemist runs out. They are expensive at the merchant, but better than nothing.

...and the useful thing about Ents is that when not meleeing, they are hard to detect on tree grids (denoted by Hidden on the status line). Higher level monsters will find you more easily though.
