Good for nothing chests...
OK, I didn't mind it so much when then first two chests I found in the DL30's contained nothing but some paltry amounts of gold/gems. But here on DL47 I killed a Mature Gold Dragon who dropped a large iron chest along with some other mostly useless objects and treasure. Upon dragging the chest to a secluded location and opening it a was rewarded with a cursed short sword, two cursed lances, and some average arrows.
It's been my experience in other variants that chests usually contain superior treasures. It seems to be just the opposite in Vanilla. Am I mistaken?
EDIT: Just found another. Large wooden. One mushroom of sickness and a wand of trap/door destruction.
EDIT: and another. Small iron from DL49. Contained about 125gp gold/gems.Last edited by buzzkill; January 3, 2009, 01:45.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

No, you are not. Leon/Bahman introduced good chests for Oangband; FA inherited them and Jeff Greene took them for NPP. Steamband also has good chests. One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

Actually - it looks to me that PowerDiver could overtake the lead fairly easily - he's already beaten Sauron and his kit looks reasonable enough to try it against Morgoth (this coming from someone who has never been there personally...).
I've still got a character going - but while I would love to win the Competition, my real goal is beating the game for the first time (even if it is with a tricked-out Dwarf Warrior...).Comment

Every character I play ends up the same... CL30ish, DL40ish... dead.
My first lucky (the best, but not by much) is the only one I posted.
My second Lucky was stalled, unable to press further with his current kit. I realized a couple of days ago that I wouldn't have time to play at my usual pace, so I hurried him, ill-equipped as he may be, past DL50. He spent a vast majority of his time there teleporting from dire situation to even more dire situation. Eventually swarmed by Dreards and killed by a Master Vampire, while hopeing for a speedy recall, IIRC.
I was home sick yesterday, so I gave it another try. I had a really promising Lucky with my best kit to date, a couple of artifacts though still no speed. His life was unexpectedly cut short when a Drolem breathed gas for over 200 damage. I didn't know they could do that!www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. My latest lucky - if he finishes in time (which isn't likely given the deadline) has a tiny shot of breaking the current record. I haven't uploaded his latest steps - but he just killed Smaug and is in the high-50s DL. Still no artifacts to speak of other than the cursed Gorlim and Thalkettoth which I respectfully declined to use...Comment

I'm rushing my current Lucky both because of the end of the comp and I want to play 3.1My first winner: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=10138Comment

While I can, I'm throwing a vote out there for a winning condition other than fewest turns. Something more completist than quick-finish? After all, we want to give the [V] beta a thorough kicking of the tires.Comment
