Have we all been there? !DEATH

Heh, didnt know potions could kill you! Thought it was safe to drink unIDd pots, but
then again, this game never ceased to suprise me.

    Random thoughts;

At the time I was battling a small dragon pit, which yielded lots of good equipment.

I did that because I wanted the inventory slot, and I had no other means to ID things.

This char was probably my best attempt yet items wise. First time I played withouth
Randarts, and autoscumming for good levels off.
(had lots of interesting levels non-theless)

Previous quest was for Haroween the black, and just before I met him, I battled a
Ancient fire dragon, which I used my swap weapon for. Haroween then proceded to
steal my main weapon, I then had to flee from him, so I never saw that weapon again.
Thats why i'm using that halberd.
If my calculation are correct, it does 105 average damage (counting dice, acid, melee
    bonus from weapon and #blows)

The crossbow I was carrying was doing amazing damage. But can someone explain to me
what "It increases your shooting power by 2" means?
I guess it ups the "Shooting" category by 2, but whats the difference between having
it 2 levels higher? And are "Legendary" max you can have? If so, wouldnt that extra +2 mean nothing?

Couldnt find any decent rings, nor amulets. Why ain't there some amulets inbetween
searching/acid/lighting/slow digestion/wisdom and the realy good ones? All my chars
(100s) have been stuck with lousy amulets.

I've problems finding confusion resistance, in fact can't remember last char who got
    it.

    As you can see

    | 693390| 47 | 35 | Destroyed Akhorahil the Blind
    | 694119| 47 | 35 | Found The Phial 'Areleb'
    | 694130| 47 | 35 | Found The Star 'Eilirmor'
    | 694141| 47 | 35 | Found The Broad Sword 'Mahalar'
    | 694297| 47 | 35 | Found The Large Leather Shield of Anenorth

Akhorahil the Blind had a really good drop, sucks though it was mere
    minutes before this death.
That sword in my inventory really trumps what i'm wealding, but it was unIDd. (160 AVG
damage compared to the 105 above, and 220 against dragons)

Lose that Accuracy ring, get another Damage ring instead, I'd say.

I count five other victims of Potion of Death on the whole Ladder.

3000' is a good depth for interesting amulets like Carlammas or Weaponmastery. Before then, it's bore.

Nice to see someone else still playing NPP, BTW.

I wanted to but found only cursed ones. I was looking for that, or CON rings. Found 1 CON+2 ring, but a measly +20HPs I found was worse than hitting more often.

In some variants (FAAngband, for example), Potions of Death hit you for your total hitpoints - so you die instantly only if you're below max HP - otherwise, you get taken down to 0 HP.

Hmm, in most variants, "It increases your shooting power by 2" increases your ranged weapon's multiplier by 2 - so your Light Crossbow would actually be a (x5) rather than the regular (x3). Not so shabby if you're an arching type, although I usually only wield a bow for the non-arching bonuses...

Never encountered !Death (yet), but just today playing [FA] quaffed an un-ID'd potions to make room in my pack, thinking..... what's the worst that could happen?

My results were better. It turned out to be *wisdom*, a first for me, and suddenly I could learn 14 new spells. Now if I could only find a dungeon spell book or 2... or 3. (Is this normal behavior for a pot of wisdom. I already know all the spells I can learn in my first 4 books).

I've never quaffed a !Death, but I did die once to an out-of-depth !Detonations, around dl 25. Once you can afford to ID potions and scrolls, you should do so. Curse armor/weapon can also really ruin your game.

Agreed in 'normal' games - I think it became an issue in FAAngband due to 'thrall mode', where you start at the equivalent of 2900ft with limited equipment...

(Curse Armor/Weapon being nasty is a good point - in FAA thrall mode, scrolls are inherently risky as reading one un'IDed scroll of Summon Monster/Teleport/TL can be fatal...)

It increases the multiplier - so a Long Bow, which is normally (x3), would be effectively (x5).

And that's really huge. Nice bow, basically, particularly with branded ammo. If it had had better +to_dam it would have been amazing. NPP has ridiculous bows. Don't worry about things like the "Legendary" rating.

I've never quaffed !Death, but once on a whim I decided to read a scroll on the floor of a vault at 4000'. I have no idea why I did that- it cursed my armor, which was Caspanion, and I almost suicided right there. I was able to come back from that, but not without real difficulty...
