    Half-Troll Ranger

HT Ranger is a logical choice given that Half Trolls have a smaller WIS penalty than they do INT. As such, my ranger had decent starting WIS points. The satisfy hunger spell early is also nice when playing a hungry Half Troll. He was doing well, especially after finding a shovel of digging, but died to paralysis by a druid. Last messages were a sasquatch clobbering me, but I didn't see any sasquatch on the screen.

I noticed Rangers have better melee skill than Rogues (which have nearly the worst).

Another HT Ranger reached DL 20. Was going pretty well. I found a nice amulet of wisdom and free action and pBlind. While running away from a werewolf I got mauled by a blood falcon.

I'm going to put a vague guess in that the druid shapeshifted into the sasquatch but I'm not certain that's something they can do.

Ahh, interesting! But he should have visibly been a dark green Y rather than a light green p, no?

Correct. There are still some issues with shapechange message timing, and it looks like visuals timing as well.

Well, there is no doubt new Angband is much harder than the previous version. I've got another HT Ranger on its way, though, plying his way deeper into the dungeon. This post highlights the terrible utility of a wand of polymorph, whereby @ learns the comical futility of polymorphing monsters....

The video begins with @ running away from an iron golem that has been harassing him for most of the level (which resisted polymorph three consecutive times). @ then comes upon a chimera and tries to polymorph him. When it fails @ tries a wand of wonder on him and he polymorphs into a 4 headed hydra; not exactly an improvement...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htipD5T_nTw#t=41m22s

@ escapes the hydra and soon finds himself in a room filling with a spreading nightmare of icky blue things. Fleeing their ickiness he finds myself face to face with the hydra again. He casts his last charge of polymorph on it and it turns into a White Wraith.... and then spend the rest of the level trying to kill this white wraith and not die to a bunch of other things on the level. When @ encounters another chimera, I just laugh, because the chimera is sooo much more preferable to the White Wraith.

So my Ranger died to weariness of attrition on DL53. Basically, after every level being a challenge or not worth spending time on, I just got tired of running away. I blasted an ancient white dragon with a dragon flame good for 200 damge. He breathed and killed my 153hp @. I guess I shouldn't attack super dangerous monsters while I'm already injured. I was on my way to a vault, too and had finally acquired a wand of TO. >.<

My current HT Ranger was exploring dungeon level 3 because it had a favorable level feeling. Came upon some sandals with (??) and figured, nice, sandals of free action. Walked over them and they were no such things: <+4> speed. What do you think the level feeling was? DL3.

Always nice to get speed super early on. Especially in what has essentially become "Challenge Mode" Angband. Here is a video of my @ on DL29 having a helluva time trying to get into a small vault. I have to apologize for all the complaining in the video. I'ts a bit embarrassing to watch, actually; like, was I expecting furry bunnies to be protecting the vault? The struggle is real. There may be a couple instances of the potty mouth during the video.

Here is a video of my latest outing: DL36 after returning home for resupplies (I do that a lot.)

It is pretty much adventure packed the whole time. New Angband doesn't give @ many breathers! To watch the whole level view here:

Otherwise, the most exciting part is when the adventure really starts to ramp up ten minutes later, when I discover a vault and contemplate whether or not it's too suicidal to risk plundering it. I end up using stone to mud to great effect, despite bad stealth. I employ clever tactics and careful positioning in an attempt to avoid re-activating dangerous monsters lured away from the vault; but have I delved too greedily and am I too ill prepared to make it out alive with any decent loot? Watch the exciting video to find out!:

BTW Nick, I love the description of the hasty ent. I burst out laughing when I read it, but unfortunately my mic was off so it didn't capture my spontaneous response to reading its description for the first time.
