"To The Stone King, Master and Warden Supreme of Kheled-zâram, Durin II.
My King and Liege,
'Tis with great sorrow that I must bring to yer august person news of Bori of Clan Longbeard's demise. I hope that yer toils and counsels shall be permitted a brief reprieve in remembrance of my father's deeds.
A priestson, in good standing and a credit to his family and Clan, my father has wielded steel crackling and hissing, cold and terrible and worn armours pondersome, a true cataphract in the service of the First Father's Throne. Of humble beginnings, he has stained the cap of Amon Rûdh with a further tone of crimson as Mîm the Petty-dwarf were slain, in righteous vengeance and grudge settling of the Betrayer's foul deeds. You shall be pleased to remember that Bar-en-Danwedh, or House of Ransom in Men-talk is no more, its memory ground under the heels of their treason.
Nargothrond's grudge was settled soon after, for the slaying of Orodreth, Lord and nephew of Finrod Felagund was avenged with gleaming steel, our ancient battle cries echoing within the Halls of Nulukkizdîn, as our petty and heartless cousins have first named it. Were it that our brothers of Nogrod would have delved there first! But surely, as steel longs for whetstone, both Nogrod and Belegost have rejoiced at the sound of Glómund's demise; for Glaurung, the Deceiver of Túrin was met with his death and such was his doom at my father's hands.
A missive, long forgotten in the midst of Felagund's riches pointed to a vast and greater evil: none other than Thû the Necromancer, Lord of Wolves, reigning in blood and cruelty from Taur-in-Gaurhoth. The greatest of Morgoth's servants, Sauron the Sorcerer hammered my father's will and wit, much like a forge aflame with fury shall burn out any impurities even from Mithril. Many and vast were his ruses and dooms unleashed upon Bori, but in the end, he too met the end of Bladorthin's wicked side.
Hardened and battle-ready, Bori would bear his eyes to the North and the Wastes of Anfauglith. But a great cloud of Unlight rose to the East and the Valley of Nan Dungortheb was choked in darkness gnawing and ever hungering, Doriath cringing and trembling under its foul reach to its south. Poisons unnumbered and waters tainted in the No Land where even Darkness feared to settle at Night, lest it be consumed by Móru the Gloomweaver's eternal Hunger. Ungoliant's Brood and their Dread Mother were no more, the wave of dread receding after her slaying.
It was time for Bori to claim the destiny of the Longbeards, as befits our noble line: straight from Durin the Deathless we come and straight to Morgoth Bauglir's dread stronghold my father went, in defiane and ready to shed light glorious from the Maker's own banner unto the depths of Angband. My father kept remembering the moment he found a small shield of Khazad-Dûm discarded thoughtlessly in a dark corner of Angband. He took that as an omen from Mahal; brandishing it proudly, he rushed headlong into combat, where shadows and dread images of Things Better Left Forgotten danced around him and where the mountain of malice that is Morgoth aimed Grond times and again at him. O, the infamy of the Dark Lord! O, the perils of such a path! But when Darkness seemed to get the best of him, Bori managed his best and sent Morgoth to the Void whence he came from.
Know, my King, that my father breathed his last at the ripe old age of 258, his proud, but age-rimmed dark eyes settling one last time upon the shimmering waters of Kheled-zâram, the lake Men would call Mirrormere. May your Kingship and Durin's throne find a moment of remembrance for him as he passes unto the Halls of Mahal, his rasping battle cry echoing one last time over the walls impregnable of our mansions and forges:

As a fellow First Age fan and dabbling lore collector, I found that the variant does great honour to the Silmarillion's content. Pure brilliance and immersion guarranteed. FAangband made me travel with my mind and that is probably the greatest prize of them all.
Second, I would like to thank all the fine people over at angband.live, where the game took place entirely online, for their support and extremely helpful attitude. Gwarl, thank you for creating and maintaining the server; rodent, my mentor, thank you for the many hours spent watching patiently over a newbie and your precious advice over those last months; wobbly, you have my thanks for providing valuable insight times and again. LogicalImp, you have been the best source of cheering I've ever met in gaming, keep it up my good fellow!
