After having been absent for 6 years, I decided to take up playing again. Running a Hobbit Mage with more SP than HP at clvl 27, I just ran into an ArchLich at dlvl 30. Monster knowledge showed it was worth 45714 exp. I wasn't even tempted. I got the hell out of Dodge.
Rather OOD

DL64 is a bit out of depth for DL30 heh. He wasn't associated with a vault?Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

Yeah, it was in a vault. Treasure detection showed 2 stat potions, which is what I was there for. Nevertheless, I wasn't going there. I don't remember this ever happening in 3.1.2, which is last version I played. If this happens a lot in 4.0.5, I guess I am in for an adventure. ArchLiches used to be the bane of my existence as a Ranger back in 3.1.2. This is my first Mage.Last edited by Gordon; March 5, 2017, 02:21.Comment

I haven't played 3.1.2 but 30+ OOD in a vault is not unusual for 4.0.5.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

Somewhere around I think about 3.2 Medium Vaults were added to the game. Originally there were only two classes of vault, Lesser (where the monsters max out at 11 levels OoD) and Greater (which have monsters up to 40 levels OoD but are very rare to encounter at low depths). Now there's also an intermediate type, Medium Vaults, which are smaller and much more common than Greater Vaults but can still include a few 40-level monsters.Comment
