    Rather OOD

After having been absent for 6 years, I decided to take up playing again. Running a Hobbit Mage with more SP than HP at clvl 27, I just ran into an ArchLich at dlvl 30. Monster knowledge showed it was worth 45714 exp. I wasn't even tempted. I got the hell out of Dodge.

DL64 is a bit out of depth for DL30 heh. He wasn't associated with a vault?

Yeah, it was in a vault. Treasure detection showed 2 stat potions, which is what I was there for. Nevertheless, I wasn't going there. I don't remember this ever happening in 3.1.2, which is last version I played. If this happens a lot in 4.0.5, I guess I am in for an adventure. ArchLiches used to be the bane of my existence as a Ranger back in 3.1.2. This is my first Mage.

I haven't played 3.1.2 but 30+ OOD in a vault is not unusual for 4.0.5.

GV's have had up to 40 dl OOD monsters since forever. They are generally sitting on 'excellent' loot, usually calculated 20 OOD.

Somewhere around I think about 3.2 Medium Vaults were added to the game. Originally there were only two classes of vault, Lesser (where the monsters max out at 11 levels OoD) and Greater (which have monsters up to 40 levels OoD but are very rare to encounter at low depths). Now there's also an intermediate type, Medium Vaults, which are smaller and much more common than Greater Vaults but can still include a few 40-level monsters.

I once got killed by a Great storm wyrm at 650' in 2.9.3 ;-) That's one way to learn that some vaults are best left alone, no matter how great the items in them.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.

OK, I am starting to get the hang of this. I just ran into a Great Wyrm of Balance in a vault at dlvl 41. This time I was actually in the vault at the time and didn't notice it until it came around a corner at me. Fortunately, TO worked just fine.
