Grinding is usually a terrible strategy. If you die and restart, you might still find FA faster IRL than grinding at DL20. When you factor in deaths due to inattention, it's my oipinion that grinding always loses.

However, as you can tell from my chosen moniker, I am ever so slightly biased. Doesn't mean I am wrong ...

The idea of diving used to terrify me. But now I adopt the attitude of PowerDiver. If I *do* get punished diving, it was fun and I'll be back to DL30 in no time; less time invested, more fun (it's exciting being ooD!), and no grinding. Also, the more @s I kill off, the less attached I get to each @ and the cool ooD gear it's found early on. Your DAR thread is likely to be more interesting, too, if you dive.

Trolling level 20 because of free action isn't a really good reason. Trolling because you can't kill anything with a +3 spear is somewhat better. But that's likely to change at any moment--even the armorsmith sells better stuff. One of those weak damage rings with -AC would help there. So would magic devices, even a wand of wonder.

I'm going to take your advise and just start over. Drops weren't happening and it was getting frustrating. The proverbial "straw" was a 2-6 feeling after 45 minutes of ensuring that I didn't miss anything finally found a small room with some treasure in it. All it yielded was some arrows of slay animal....

On another note my ongoing HT warrior just found a lone nexus hound that just switched my INT and DEX. So now I have a genius HT that just lost about 2 blows per round lmao. Its ok finding plenty of stat potions around this level so well be back in the game here pretty soon.

I'm pretty sure that if you play the nightlies, then nexus breath will instead swap all of your stats around, but only temporarily. I say "pretty sure" because Nick incorporated my pull request that implements that feature, but that was months ago and I haven't been playing much lately.

Not 100% on that. At a glance it looked like it was just dex and int but if your saying its just temporary even better. Has it always been like this? I remember (vaguely) that it was permanent.

If it's temporary, you should see a "Scrambled" status ailment indicator on the bottom row. It's a new thing added because of the changes to rune-ID that made identification more reliant on experimentation (and thus potentially intentionally inflicting nexus damage on yourself many times). But again, this would only be in the nightly builds, not 4.0.5 official.

The old behavior for the past 20+ years has been a permanent swap of exactly 2 stats.

Ok. Nexus seems like a easily attained resistance before there is any common encounters with the element. It has been awhile since I have had some stats swapped.

(+4 +15) <+2> trident of west sitting on the floor on DL11. Great start that weapon should do me well for awhile.

Wish I had item selling turned on. Found 4 more ego items on the same dungeon level.

After returning to town make some key purchases that cover me for all the base elemental damage. After recalling to the dungeon I made call and read a deep descent. Come down right into a 2-7 level feeling. Glad I picked up 10 trap detections at the store before coming down here. Trolls are horrible at finding them on their own.

Alright.... first medium vault. Three uniques OOD inside along with an array of OOD creatures. No To and only +1 speed thanks to an elven cloak I picked up on the previous level off of Sangahyando a few levels back. Most of the creatures that I'm worried about either move quickly or very quickly. So I decide to try and clear the rest of the level before I try the vault. Got really lucky and a Master Thief dropped a +4 boots of speed and a +3 ring of con. Nothing substantial except some more health pots and one more speed pot. Nitemare and Lokkak go first after a bit of kiting and phasing around shooting them with some seeker bolts that are hitting just as hard as my mele weapon. Logan is the next to fall but not until he summons mature MHD and a bunch of other creatures. TS with 80 life left after the dragon hit me with a pois breath. Heal up and rebuff and go back in and he falls along with the rest of the OOD creatures. 1 TS left and 2 HCW. That was close. I really didn't want to leave this 7-7 level feeling.

Going through the loot now if anything good comes up ill let ya'll know.

Sooooo.... picked up a new staff and seeing that I'm out or identify I use it really quick to see if its anything useful. *Destruction*. I just lost everything. It was in the first stack. I'm and idiot.

Just picked up MOD of Gondolin (+20+14) on DL70. Fantastic find. Now I can swap out my helm of telepathy for my jewel crown of might. That brings my health from 556 to 637 and damage from about 400 a blow to 566.

Ya, I don't use staves/read scrolls inside of vaults if I can't ID them for that reason. Nice MoD find, though. What is HCW? I'm familiar with !CCW (Cure Critical Wound) !CLW (Cure Light Wounds) and !CSW (Cure Serious Wounds). I assume it is a !Healing? (Heal, Cure Wounds)?

                            CCW is what I meant.

My @ is pretty buff right now. Finally found my resist confusion and an amulet of trickery so I can finally trade out my g slot for some better pieces that don't have res poison on it. The randarts and ego items in this game are really coming through.

I am rocking [Rohirrim (rBase, rSound, pConf) and Elvenkind rPois; a damage ring and ROS. <+17> Speed, 409dam in melee to those not rAcid on DL58. ESP would be nice, though.

Wait, did you say the MoD provides Telepathy? Or is there some other reason you can swap out your helm of Telepathy for a crown of might?

Yes its providing telepathy and see invis. I couldn't find anything useful with see invis on it without taking some serious hits to other areas. So the helm was atleast allowing me to see intelligent invisible creatures.

Really wish I could find a high +speed ring to free up my other finger. That one you have is a nice find. Takes both of mine combined to match. I cant really complain though. I have gotten some great luxury items. That MOD and another MOD HA that's a nice swap for the harder targets, res sound and stunning, and a xbow with +2 extra shots. I am however missing chaos and disenchantment res.
