    Dumbest SURVIVAL ever

And I mean DUMB. One of my first characters ever, a high elf mage, had just learned the trick of putting a monster to sleep in a hallway to stop a horde of pursuers. Armed accordingly with a stack of two Sleep Monster wands with 24 charges, he Recalled into the dungeon. After wandering around a bit, he detected an orc pit with a long hallway coming off of it. Perfect! He started drawing the orcs out of the pit a bunch at a time, lining them up in the hallway to zap lightning bolts through them and melee them once they were softened up a bit. He went to zap yet another lightning bolt and realized that he didn't have enough mana. Oops! How did thaat happen? Oh well, time to put this guy to sleep. Aim wand. Success! Can't believe how stupid these orcs are.

He took one step backward and 3 things happened.

    1) The orc he just put to sleep got hit in the back with an arrow and woke up.

    2) He got hit by an arrow fired from offscreen.

    3) This thing that looks like an X came crashing through the wall and landed on his head.

He (L)ooked over to his right and saw a string of Uruks headed for him. He knew he needed to teleport but didn't have enough mana. What to do? He came up with the brilliant idea of attacking the X. "That way I can run out through the tunnel it made. It'll be no match for my cutlass of extra attacks!" He attacked and got gazed at and confused. He had no potions of cure anything. Black orc on top of him, Uruks nearly there. He couldn't think of anything to do other than keep trying to attack the X. Now he's getting attacked from 3 sides. HP are being lost in chunks. I resigned this character to death and started just tapping the arrow key.

Suddenly the screen COMPLETELY CHANGED. What the heck just happened? "The Blink dog commands you to return." Apparently the Umber Hulk had set free a pack of blink dogs as well as the Uruks. My character got tossed around like a confused rag doll for a bit, but the dogs didn't do any real damage. The confusion wore off just as the X came crashing into the room. But by this time enough mana had regenerated to teleport, and he found a safe place to rest.

    Sometimes the RNG giveth.

Nice job!...makes me wish I could carry around a blink dog in my pocket for such emergencies.

JUST got into a fight with Mughash and his escort of kobold mages. After killing Mugash and dispatching the escort from a hallway and BARELY surviving i enter the room to collect my spoils and there is one kobold mage hiding in the corner who fires magic missle the moment I enter.....and i dropped to ZERO hit points, but didnt die....one bolt of wounding later, kobold dead and i get some MUCH needed rest.

0 HP happens to me quite often. I don't survive it always, though...
If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.

You should have healed at that moment instead of firing that bolt. You could have missed

Wasn't the title "Dumbest SURVIVAL ever" or something like that
No, I don't have a clue 'bout C, and I'm not starting my own variant.
                Never. Ever.

I have two EXTRA DUMB survival stories:

First, in the game where I found these boots of speed. I had just found the boots and swapped them for my boots of stability; teleport away, running from some monster, and landed in the middle of a Nexus hound pack. They confused/blinded/stunned/slowed me and started ping-ponging me all over the screen, so each hound would get at least one hit... and then, suddenly, "It breathes nexus. You sink through the floor." Yay!

Second, in this other game I started as a kobold priest. I was carelessly diving down levels, and an unfortunate teleport landed me in front of one unique. I tried to escape, but I was out of scrolls and mana, so I tried running through some corridor, but there were more monsters on the other side. I finally hid behind a closed door, and he opened it, I closed it, and so on until my mana recovered...
He hit me for HOW MUCH?????

I have used this trick more times than I like to admit.

I've used it as well - but eventually the opponent always seems to break the door after too short of a time... bad luck for me?

I had a dumb survival very similar to this. I was facing down a random unique Mystic... a real badass. He moved very quickly and I let him get next to me by mistake, and he took me down to knocked out in one round. Fortunately, some phase spiders he had summoned saved me by bouncing me around. The guy managed to get next to me when I woke up but fortunately I had a move first.

From my competition character, who has resistances to everything but (at the time) no Free Action:

The Illusionist stares deep into your eyes!
                              You are paralyzed!
                              The Illusionist hits you.
                              The Illusionist hits you.
The Illusionist drains power from your muscles!
                              You feel yourself moving slower!
The Illusionist casts a spell, burning your eyes!
                              You are unaffected!
                              The Illusionist hits you.
                              The Illusionist misses you.
                              The Illusionist teleports away.
                              You can move again.

and it happened again (and he teleported again) a few levels later...
