The following is an account of a thrilling adventure.
I was playing kobold rogue. At clvl 23/24. I was playing no_selling and I went in without the WoR hoping to get it inside the dungeon. Then near the start of 1050', my light ran out. I hadn't yet found a lit room. I groped in the darkness feeling the walls as I move.
Ironically the first monster I face after this was a pack of light hounds. They breathe light and make the blind blinder. But when the blindness wore off I had my patch of light.
I blindly(actual meaning) killed the Z and was immediately confronted with an orc unique and his minions. Low on health I cast a phase door. I reached other place in the darkness. I drank some CCWs and by this time the orcs came to fight. This was the only time I think Infravision seemed so improtant (other than avoiding early Smeagol). Finally maganged to slay all the orcs. Then went to the light patch and extended it into a room using call light. Then I come face to face with a 5-headed hydra. The fight went on till I drunk my last CCW and a phase door landed me outside the illuminated room. I now had to fight it. Just when I had nearly 20 HP left the M fleed in terror. Then I detected for treasure. No ~ at all nor any !Oil. There was one unId scroll. My best chance of escape was if it was WoR . I blindly(usual sense) illuminated all the corridor to it (I could have simply picked it up brought it to the illuminated room). With a Whip{splendid, Defender} I was able to recover mana very easily. The scroll turned out to be acquirement. And it acquired a Phial . Thus ended the lightless run for my rogue.
Soon I found a WoR (maybe in the same of next level.)
I think he was really lucky on 3 counts:
1. Encountering the light hounds
2. Being a rogue to detect treasure
3. ?Acquiring the Phial.
