    And that was only the half of the loot I got to!! There was also a ring of speed and several branded bolts. It was on of those spiral, one monster and an item in a box vaults. Found it at about 2450' i think. I did manage to kill The Cat Lord, Scatha, Lorgan, and Waldern. Unfortunately the Omens of Death feeling was right. Ar-pharazon kicked me out of the vault, Atlas chased me around and the Tarrasque BBQed me for 500 points Definitely the best vault I've had and so sad to lose such a promising character, warriors should get stacking resists, at least a little bit

    Am I the only one who thinks these vaults should be toned down a bit. There are a couple vaults like this and overall they are far better than other vaults. I like the idea of relatively easy to clear vaults with good gear, but there tends to be way too much stuff in those vaults.

      Spiral one is later addition. The original CGV has guaranteed excellent only in every second cell, not in every cell. If you change the spiral one to match that, it would be equal to old one and I have nothing against that (I agree that spiral one is too rich in reward without drawback like preserve off)

      CGV is highest reward vault in the game, but there are also others that come very close to that in quality. It just is famous because it has been around a lot longer than any of the new ones. Bubbles comes very close to that in quality, maybe even exceed it if you count drops from monsters in the equation.

      If you want to reduce the amount of stuff in it you should remove the center long section with lots of excellent stuff, but OTOH that is the one section in the vault you usually don't want to mess with unless you are way way more powerful than denizens of the vault. Especially now that tele-other is a bolt and not a beam.

      If you want to make vaults more challenging, remove the easy access spells from working there: mass banishment, banishment, earthquake and *destruction*. Make vault squares immune to them.

      I prefer to just make them rare. Players need lucky breaks every now and then, and that qualifies as such thing. Finding one "too" early is also challenge and temptation that makes game harder to win. It is a mini-game inside the game to clear one up. Eddie has won the game in less turns than I have sometimes used to clear just one of those things. It just never gets boring to clear them.

        Maybe more granularity to vault azllocation would be a good idea. Currently (IIRC) there three classes of vault (lesser, medium and greater) and all of a particular class are equally likely. You could either make more classes, or make vaults have varying rarity within the classes.

          I think surprisingly we are mostly on the same page here. I'll look into changing the item allocation to the spiral vault so that it's slightly less awesome. I want to leave the middle section also though, that seems like a very high risk/reward section.

            Definitely agree that the spiral vault should just be an alternate layout for the GCV. In fact, the spiral vault currently lacks a central corridor. How about this alternate layout?

              Replace first '8' with '&'. That's how it is in the other one (first cell is never the really dangerous one).

                I like the idea of making vaults able to be more precise about their frequency. Fizzix and I have talked about things like this awhile ago... might be worth coming back to.
