    There we go, to be honest I don't htink there's anything particularly special about the character, just that I'm not a very good player and he was going along ok by my standards. Didn't know I had keep_randardts on. I think this is the first character I've played since I put randarts on at all who's found any, so it doesn't really matter.

    Feeling less melodramatic about it this morning , boggins will battle on even though he's been slightly handicapped.

    Hey, he's not as strong but he's much better looking now. Are all those singing happy drunks men, or are there some ladies in the village too?

    e: I'll probably dive down to a non-safe level and detect object !Strength scum. Of course it's only a matter of time before Boggins gets distracted by an unIDed ring, or amulet, or to be honest a whip.

    What's the best !strength depth ~2000ft ish?

      There is no "best depth", though at 3000' you are at the depth scouts (novice rangers) drop stat-potions. You are too weak to go that deep though, unless you play risky. AMHD, drolems and several other insta-killers for chars <600HP lurk beyond 2000'. You need to know what you are fighting and how to avoid them to risk deeper depths.

      As help, you need to change tactics. Forget heavy weapons, forget the resistance, use DEX and CON to survive, use that robe. Go lightweight. You need basic4 resistance same time you need resist poison (AMHD), just avoid ancient dragons until that time. Get lighter weapon, I think usual enchanted dagger can give you more damage than that Great Hammer, especially with that robe.

      Swap that regeneration amulet to highest infravision amulet you can find. Infravision works as poor mans ESP, revealing monsters beyond your lite range (if you get high enough PVAL, until then use the regen amulet). Enchant that bow up, and use it to kill things. carry scrolls of phase door (10-15 at least) to do shoot and scoot tactics, buy potions of heroism, those help surprisingly lot. Maybe also scrolls of blessing from temple.

      Also, lose carried weight. That -1 in speed is a bad, bad thing. That heavy shield does need replacement.

      It is playable, just difficult char.

        Found a fun vault at ~1900 ish, there was a greater titan in it, I somehow managed to resist the temptation to take it on. Not like me at all

          Boggins finally got done in by a Master Mystic, who going form the message history stunned and then knocked him out (I think). This left poor Bogs paralysed whilst numerous summons slowly devoured his vulnerable flesh. I like to think that part of my fictional avatar could feel the pain, in the same way that my heart sunk as the game stopped taking input from me and I watched the chaos of messages telling me that he was buggered.

          Is this a resistance thing I should have known about? I'm pretty sure that I had Sound resist, is there separate stun resist (can't check right now)?

            There is a separate stun protection, but it's rather hard to find as no gear has it standard (you have to hope it'll show up on items that have random special abilities, like Lothlorien bows and Holy Avenger swords). Fortunately, stunning is only an instadeath risk from mystic melee and sound/plasma hounds, so as long as you're careful around those enemies you should be fine.

              Isnt crown of serenity guaranted to get it ? At least sofar, all the ones I have found had it (maybe 3 or 4).

                Ah, you're right. My mistake. That is the only ego that is guaranteed to provide it, though. The crowns of Gondor and Numenor also give it.

                  Holy Avengers do not give random abilities, just random sustain. *slay evil* and 'Blessed' give random ability. Also magi cloaks and magi and lordliness crowns. With lothlorien bows I think that was all of them.

                  I have sometimes thought of making "lesser rings of power" as ego, giving them one random sustain, one random ability and one random resist. Or two. Or add constant/random fighting/AC/speed/stealth etc. bonuses.

                  Problem is that game doesn't currently support ego rings or multiple random features.

                        Rules of survival are easy:

                        Be aware where and what your opponents are. (detection)
                        Know where you are going (planning)
                        Be faster than them. (avoidance/fight/survival)
                        Don't start a fight if you can't win. (avoidance/fighting capabilities/knowledge of opponents)
                        Be ready to escape at all times. (panic, failproof "get away from here")

                        You are good if you don't need to go to point five often or at all.

                        High HP helps a lot (600+), resists for insta-kill elements (basic4 and poison) and protection to effects that can lead to death (free action, confusion, blindness) are good to have. If you don't know your opponent always assume it can kill you if it is faster than you. Read monster description before fighting, there are clues to what it might be able to do. Probing reveals pretty much everything from unknown monsters.
