    Hi Tobias,
I really like seeing some longplay videos of Angband, I've been looking for that for a long time out of curiosity, to analyze how other people play in practice.
I'm your first subscriber and hope to follow your journey down to level 100

      Third Session:
      I prepare for stat-gain.
My initial plan for this session was:
Descent slowly until I reach dlvl 24 or find FA.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Preparing to go down. Ezel starts carrying a heavy pike of lightning, for it's resists.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Fighting with Gofimbul. One of his escorts drops a Maul of Westernesse, giving Ezel his source of FA.
He gets slimed by a jelly, which will be the trend for his video.
His first useful speed item will be a ring of escaping.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

With his backpack full, Ezel decided that this will be his last level for today.
In the second to last room, he gets slimed up by a gelatinous cube.
Oh and he kills some more named orcs.
Then he prepares to enter the last room for today.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

The last room contains 90 monsters. Those include smeagol brother of deagol and orfax, son of boldor.
Fighting through this mess, he earns the backbreaking lance of the Eorlingas, which he can't lift without a horse.

Next session he can finally dive to stat-gain.

To Nolendil: I have only won once. about 2 years ago. This is also only my second on_sell game. I will be suprised if I make it to level 50.

Ezel finally finds the item he mainly targeted with this dive. The fabulous rod of treasure location. With this the most boring phase in the game is over.

        .
        Please explain.

Now I can just detect and go straight for the interesting parts, of move on to the next quarter of the level. Or even the next level.
This speeds up the game immensely. Maybe it is not a good idea anymore now that monsters can pick up items, but I will stick to my habits for now.

The game has 3 boring parts for my play style:
Clearing every level, and hope for the detection rod. Which I just did.
Stat gain. Which I tend to skip unless i have really bad luck with equipment.
Farming level 98 for the ascension kit. Which takes some time to get boring, if you skipped too many uniques.

So the first part is the only constantly boring part, for my playstyle.

          tl;dr:
I don't like diving without treasure detection, so the game is slow before.

I still dont understand. I never bothered looking for treasure *at all*. Why do you do it? Please explain why digging for treasure is worth the time and effort.

I am not looking for burried treasure, though it is worth digging for the stuff near the surface if you have no_sell on.
              I am looking for items.

I do pretty much the same thing. Having detect treasure gives you direction rather than just wandering through the dungeon. I also use detect evil to hunt uniques or just something to kill when there's no treasures about. And when A and B fail, detect stairs.

                  I still don't get it

                  I just explore until I
                  a) realize the level feeling is low, and im powerful enough to go down a level
                  b) ive mapped the whole level

btw; I didnt mean to hi-jack your lovely thread Tobias!

I never explore boring levels. If the feeling is low I just detect everything (stairs, traps, doors, items, monsters), and if I don't see anything nice, I directly head for the stairs.
If the feeling is middling, I make a big round around the level, detecting every screen. I also cast mapping if I have an abundant source.
Only for very high feelings do I check every room, by myself.

It looks like you play a very slow game, personally I don't find that style fun. But it gives you probably a higher rate of winners than mine.

Detect treasure detects items as well as treasure. It didn't do that in older versions, which I think is the reason you don't use it. Very handy, but also a bit abusive, kinda like antisummoning corridors. It makes rogue detect items/enchantment completely redundant.

Right, totally forgot that it used to detect only buried stuff. Don't really think it is very exploitive. Though I don't like to use ASCs, they are a bit boring.

I totally forgot about detect enchantment. It is usefull for a mage, as you can drop the detect treasure items then. Although it would make just as much sense to give mages detect treasure at level 30 instead of never and replace detect enchant.

But it is far from being the only useless spell.

Keep in mind that you can also buy scrolls that do the same thing the rod does. 15 scrolls of treasure location will last you a fairly long time and do not cost much.

Yes, I know. But it just feels so wasteful, to use a scroll ( or a staff charge ), on a boring level. I always try to use those more, but then feel much too greedy to really use them. This ends up with me having 10 of the scrolls in my inventory when I find the rod.

I'm currently at episode 7.3 and wonder why you're keeping your Rapier of Slay Orc (no useful effect on that) and your Wand of Magic Missile (its damage per turn is getting less and less useful and it seems that, like me, you keep those wands in case you run out of mana but actually always forget to use them ).
I would have squelched one of those instead of the !oSpeed at 8:20.

I also wondered why you squelched your mushroom of Terror, they make you temporarily fast at the expense of being afraid which doesn't matter for your mage.
