Ezel the bowless mage on video.

I am continuing to make LP videos.

Here is the next session. Now with my usual playstyle.

After my intro char died, I rolled up my usual combo.
A High-Elf Mage. I will play bowless ( or rather ammoless).
I will play without randarts and with nosell.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

First I start notice that the magic store doesn't have book one, and commit suicide.
On the second try, I find a Lantern at the BM. I complete my shopping, almost die to a white worm infection.
After fleeing down, I level up to 3 and start detection spamming.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

I run into and kill Fang. Use ID some stuff, including a scroll of Deep Descent. Then I notice I forgot to bring food, and fight my way up to town.
I buy my second spellbook and head down again.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Ezel starts to really use area effect spells. Levels up to nine and recalls. Then he spends lot's of time shopping. Forgets the change to deep descent, and has to walk down to level 8 for the third time.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Ezel goes to dlvl 8 and starts to level up. Gets annoyed at ghosts.
Finally at clvl 11 he starts, the wonderful magey habit of spamming identify on everything that doesn't move.
Then he runs away from a lot of orcs.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Ezel continues to the next level.
He encounters the nemesis of his ancestor, and bravely runs away.
Then he takes his anger out on poor wormtounge, by making him jog through half the level. And finally pokes him to death.
Then he looks at the loot and gets confused by his own bling.
After more running from orcs, he recalls. He finally has saved enough for a staff of teleport.

"Ezel the bowless mage on video"

Anyone else read this as "bowelless mage" at first glance? What an unfortunate lot in life that would be.

Of course maybe all characters are like that in Angband. They have to eat, but they never seem to have to... well, you know.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then why are beholders so freaking ugly?

As someone who's just spent the day with a potty-training two-year-old, I found that really funny.

I also read it as "bowelless", but thought that meant "gutless", so basically "Ezel the cowardly mage". Obviously reference to his play stile :-)

Since you were surprised to not find healing potions at the alchemist: those are sold by the temple (the green store)

Except they're sold at the alchemist in the nightlies.

Really ? I havent played nightlies recently, but that seems to be a weird change. If anything, I would have moved restore potions to the temple, but healing magic definitely is priestly.

Well, restore potions are gone entirely, so they can't very well be at the temple any more.

The only potions the temple sells now are Heroism and Bravery.

Bravery? Is that like Heroism, but without to-hit bonus?

It just cancels fear; no temporary protection. I've never bothered to use it, since Heroism is better in every way and only barely more expensive.

Oh, and it's Boldness, not Bravery. My bad.

Boldness isn't extremely useful considering that Heroism is many times more useful and both are very cheap. That's one potion that would need some boosting to convince people to carry them. Alternatively they could be removed. It is pretty much junk from the beginning of the game.

Second Session for Ezel the bowless mage.
The audio quality really sucks this time.

Ezel enters the dungeon again, only to get almost eaten by a cute baby dragon.
After a drawn out battle he finally kills mugash the kobold lord.

Ezel leaves his mousy bling behind. This seems to bring him good luck.
He finds a potion of Experience at 550ft, and jumps from level 14 to 28.
With this success he has to return to town for the next spellbook.

With his new power Ezel abandons his plan of continuing slowly, and speeds off into the dungeon.
With his new powers Ezel easily takes down Brodda, domestic abuser of the east, and steals his beautiful coat.
He also finds a ring of open wounds, and starts using it. Ezel rally like the plus minus item, it seems.

Ezel finally finds the item he mainly targeted with this dive. The fabulous rod of treasure location. With this the most boring phase in the game is over.

Ezel enters a dark and scary cave. Luckily he had stacked up on mapping items. He has his first encounter with the horror that will hound him for the mid game.
After almost dieing his first pack of hounds, he takes on his first serious summoner, Boldor , King of the Yeeks.
Ezel's comment: Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima!

Ezel returns to town and goes to bed happily, in the knowlege that he has surpassed his greatest ancestor, without entering far into the dungeon.

He still has no Free Action though, so his dreams are haunted by ghouls and carrion crawlers. And haunted by hounds, but his dosn't need mentioning.
Next time on Ezel the bowless mage: Searching for Freedom.
