    4750' with zero speed 400 HP.

    I just got a bit bored with my Hi-Elf Rogue, having played it over 1.2M turns and not getting CON fast enough (for some reason I find more than twice more STR than anything else, it being maxed with 10 or so str potions on reserve while CON was still below 18).

    zero permanent speed. HP a bit over 400 with RoCON +5. Other ring slot occupied by RoRPoison. Depth 2600'. Boring. Killed troll uniques, two ringwraiths, Smaug, Itangast, Scatha. Some less interesting ones.

    Hmmmm... I have 21 scrolls of deep descent. Staff of destruction. Tensers with greater recharging (lucky early find) Time to dive.

    Interesting, 10 uniques in immediate vicinity, every single one instant death. *destruct*. Careful roaming around a while, taking stairs (disconnected) after hasting, one recall and then back. CGV!!!

    Every artifact and that Permanence DSM are result of diving. I had only Phial, Anduril, Gurthang, Hurin, Thranduil and Hithlomir before diving and found only Star and Thunderfist before finding that GCV.

    Still only +5 permanent speed. I need to keep things asleep, so have use for stealth, so I carry Rohirrim as swap until I need conf or sound. Weapons in inventory are immunity-swaps.

        Great Checkerboard Vault, arguably the best vault in the game. It's broken up into single-tile cells, each of which holds alternately a single moderately out-of-depth monster or a single highly out-of-depth monster and an excellent out-of-depth item.

          There are two variants of this, one with zig-zag corridor is one you describe above, then there is one with double-spiral (corridors from both exit points spiral toward center meeting in middle) with every single tile cell with those excellent OoD items and monsters. The one I found was the spiral one. Easily the best vault in the game.

          (I write it as Checkerboard Greater Vault. GV in general means Greater Vault, and LV in general means Lesser Vault. Now there is third category, which could be called Medium Vault or MV)

            That or Whip of Gothmog. Actually I probably don't need it for Calris because I can cast enchant weapon at will now. I'm not sure I can remove curse from Whip without *RC* though (it doens't have negative bonus in to_hit or to_dam).

            Actually I probably won't use Whip even if I find it now that I have this arsenal or weapon (Aule or Thunderfist are better and I have Narya for IMM_FIRE)

              Just go ahead and try. I think the change where each enchant *attempt* is 25% likely to break the curse is in 3.2.

                Gah! Just realized that I did play a short while without FA. My only source of FA was Anduril, and when I swapped to Thunderfist it was gone. That would have been stupid death.

                  That's why whenever I swap my gear around I go look at the Ch screen and make certain the essentials are covered. It's easy to think "Oh, I have lots of sources of FA, so I'm covered" but you may have fewer than you think...

                    Those paralysation YASDs where a small critter nibbles away at you are probably the most annoying deaths. You did well to survive at that depth without FA, even fir a short time.
