    Trickery from BM, woohoo!

    Hip.

Got Trickery +2 amulet from BM at the point where I just entered stat-gain levels. clvl 26, dlvl 1500'. Needed to sell pretty much everything I owned, including HXbow Extra Shot (+1) (damn 5000 purse shopkeepers again in both armory and weapon store), but for +2 speed, DEX, stealth, Infravision, rPoison and rNexus I think it was worth it. It cost around 85600gp.

Playing dunadan warrior with Trident of Acid. For some reason game is refusing to give me any detect trap -things. I haven't seen rod OR scroll yet. Have one rod of detect doors and stairs (had two) and one rod of light. Now at clvl 27 and dlvl 1600' (thanks to one trap door).

Detection sucks currently. Don't know if I should slow down or speed up. This is dangerous area to play.

Get yourself one useless splendid blunt weapon, sell it to the temple for a ridiculous amount of money, and buy out the alchemist until you get trap detection scrolls.

Otherwise good suggestion, but I haven't found any splendid blunt weapons yet. Few egos that sell for 1500-2000gp yes, but not splendid. It really doesn't matter, traps are not instant death unless I get really unlucky with summoning or teleport trap.

Just now I have practically no money at all, thanks to buying that Trickery amulet.

My current character did the "sell everything I own" trick twice, once to afford !Int (playing as a dwarf mage; INT is badly needed) and once to get a Defender pike (mostly for the regen and SI). I had rather more generous shopkeepers though.

Trap detection does seem to be very rare now. I used to expect to find several -TrapDet by 500' or so, but now it's not uncommon for my warriors to not find even one until stat gain. The vulnerability to electricity doesn't help any.

Which version are you playing? ISTR they were pretty common below DL25 in v2, but that may have changed with the recent change to drop levels in the nightlies.

Below DL25, yes, but as I stated I just entered stat-gain, I haven't spend much time there yet. Problem is with detection, too many insta-killers for my fragile warrior deeper. This is the most dangerous part of the game for me (barring the very beginning).

Version is 3.1.2 R2041, so not the most recent but relatively recent (there was a bug in nightlies at one point preventing me from using most recent versions).

Worst is over. Found Phial, BM sold rod of detection and dungeon gave me two rods of trap detection. Over 500HP, but weapon is still weak.

I think I'd keep the Heavy Xbow +shots -- that's a mighty fine weapon, and you can get $5000 GP easily from other sources; I'd certainly sell my only copy of Scarabtrices or Etherial Openings before the XBow. It's more in the way of a loan.

That was the last thing to sell, and it hurt, but when you are facing simple selection of selling that or your only source of basic4 resistances or your only melee-weapon that can actually hurt your enemies, I chose the xbow. I really needed to sell practically everything, including my potion supply. No such things as dungeon books yet seen.

Got a LXbow of extra shots soon after. A bit less damage, but enough.

Now the situation is completely different. Considering that my sources of poison resist are the ring or the amulet, I choose the amulet (with speed/DEX/nexus/stealth/sust dex) any day. Both ring slots have a lot better use (both have RoCON which puts me just above 18/200 CON). It was a good exchange.

Currently diving like crazy and stopping only to see what's in "superb" and "excellent" levels. I'm hoping for telepathy or many detection rods.

I'm pretty sure that has the lesser drop depths, so the egos are less plentiful in the first half of the game. The more significant change is to pvals on rings. Don't expect to see speed rings as good as they were before the change.

I have finished both 3.1.2v2 and this at least twice both already and didn't notice any difference in RoS pval. Both give roughly +12 as best what you can expect, very very rarely more. (I once tried to create better one at dlvl 127 in debug-mode by rerolling RoS as "excellent", but +15 was best I got after more than hundred rerolls).

I'm talking about the difference in frequency +8 vs +9 vs +10 vs +11. When they are generated less often and with lower depth when created, the frequency tends more toward the lower values.

RoS is not where I have noticed this, but BoS is. Last game didn't give me anything above +5, and I found quite a few of those. Usually in these late versions I have got much better than that before endgame.

Boots of speed are just a straight-up d10 roll, so they're as likely to be +10 as +1 regardless of depth.

They are still flat 1d10? I thought that had been changed. Maybe I had been dreaming that. So my odd games continue. This current game has been a bit too good to me: telepathy just after posting here that I need telepathy, rod of trap detection same, weapon upgrades also same. Only thing missing for basically kill Morgoth is speed with some consumables, and I have hardly even managed to leave stat-gain. (obviously around 70 uniques is still alive, so if M summons uniques...)

RNG must be reading this forum.
