    Gabriel difficulties

    Hello.

I just got YAW, but with a twist. Played Half-orc warrior, and while I had no problems whatsoever killing Vecna, Gothmog, Huan, Carcharoth, Tarrasque etc. high-level uniques, Gabriel almost killed me five times. I once even took my entire supply of healing potions with me to hunt him down and I needed to use almost all of them before giving up. I needed then to resupply my stock of potions. I finally killed him with gear of Aule, Nenya, Haradrim, Gondor +32 speed and near 100 points of damage / hit against angels and a lot of CCW.

That one was harder to kill than Morgoth (though when I finally got to M, I was obviously much better prepared). I don't recall ever having this much difficulty killing Gabriel. Carcharoth was the only one that came even close in difficulty because of Nether breath (Sauron is a joke with Aule).

Has something been done to him? Or did he just chose to use the most damaging possible methods against me every single time I met him?

    Grats on the W

I dont know if Gabriel got changed, but he has ruined many of my characters day before. I am in the habit of avoiding that one untill im ready for M and hes often the last unique killed before M.

It reminds me of when TSR changed the stats on their outer planes monsters to the effect of making all angels more powerfull than their corresponding demons. Man did I laugh when I realized WHY they had done that.

That didn't tell me anything. Was it something similar to the case where MtG Unholy Strength lost the pentagram (I have few of those with it)?

Well...in a way. There was a time when D&D was *very* sensitive to charges of promoting Satanism...and MtG wasn't immune to that kind of thing either.

Now that doesnt tell ME anything
Anyway, TSR was the company maintaining the DnD tabletop roleplaying game (which is one root of Angband). They got attacked for using demons (by whom ? I dont even want to know) and apparently made angels more powerful as a reaction: "look, the good guys are much tougher then the bad ones, so your kid can safely play DnD".

Which is just stupid, in my opinion. I mean, if angels were good, they wouldn't need to attack you, right (we all have drunk a bit and killed Farmer Maggot and urined on his corpse... but that's not evil, is it?).

Who said we always played good characters?

Which, actually, was a secondary issue...that the game promoted evil by encouraging players to run evil characters. Ludicrous argument, but hey, what do you expect from the religious whack-jobs?
