    Looking for a little advice.

OK, THe RNG's been showin' a little love this game. I could use a little advice as to which of these finds I should be carrying / equiping, and what i can dump. I think I have on what i need, but just looking for opinions.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

Your currently wielded weapon and bow look pretty pointless. Save the bow in case you need a con boost for the endgame, but otherwise you should be choosing a launcher based on damage. The xbow at home is better. For melee, the katana and halberd should be your main options.

It looks as if rBlind is your biggest weakness. The simplest solution is to get a hat of seeing.

I'm gonna disagree on the bow. Remember, he's a ranger, so he'll get an extra shot with the bow. The choice is between +3 speed on the xbow, versus +4 con from the bow. Given that he's still not at max Con, I'd say it's a tossup right now.

If he finds anything else with +5 or so speed, then I'd definitely prefer the extra +3 speed to the +4 Con.

I agree that the dagger's weak, and the halberd's better. Zen, remember: slays and brands only apply to the weapon's damage dice, so even against dragons you only get 5d4...12.5. The halberd does 18 against anything evil.

You've got that backwards. The less speed you have, the more valuable in terms of percentage increase in damage. That +3 speed counts +30% damage and applies to melee as well as shooting. Oops, he is slowed, so it counts as +33% damage. It also avoids being double-moved by monsters randomly at +10% or +20% energy. Speed is better than the raw damage number for intangible reasons, so for comparison purposes I'd put it at +40% on top of an x6 launcher with better damage bonus. If he can manage to haste himself for all tough fights, it drops to about +20%, but I don't think the comparison is at all close.

I'm with Eddie here. Notice the xbow is +3 shooting power so he may as well be getting an extra shot, plus the speed, and he has good bolts. Speed -1 will get you killed... hopefully you are just geared for recall, otherwise the xbow is a must if you are having weight issues and unwilling to stow a useless, heavy, redundant high-resist armour. Also I might drop half the _teleportation at home for weight reasons. But save the bow.

I would replace =dam with another =con if that is the issue and focus on ranged attacks. Hat of seeing or telepathy are big wins. I would be packing a lot more !CCW and I tend to hoard !healing at this point but it is better to carry and use/lose a few than die. Same with !rMana. Of course if you are playing a recent nightly you will probably drown in both. I would have also been hording !speed too but I like hoarding. YMMV. Rods of curing are good to sell but that's it. Especially in your home. What are you going to do? Recall and use it? !CCW is superior in all regards.

I would say you are for sure safe at 50 and could go deeper with care and hopefully some temporary speed boosting effects (_speed, !speed) or some guaranteed escapes (?dd, ?tl, ?destruct).

Sombody broke them. Part of ewert's changes to object.txt? Anyway, now they don't sell for much, so they have no value. When someone writes the code to squelch things starting at birth, in they go.

IIRC Ewert made them also much shallower so that you can actually use them when poisoned/blinded etc. Maybe it should be like dlvl1 item or something like that (and vulnerable to electricity, there's nothing special in it).

Honestly Rods of Curing should be Rods of CSW or something like that. There's no point in carrying them when potions are readily available, more reliable, and strictly more effective. Bring them up to parity with potions and they might be worth using.

Why would you carry one even then? You have 0% fail with the potions even when confused, and can carry multiple in a slot.

I've used rods of curing exactly once: as an ironman warrior. I would treat rods of CSW the same way.

For occasionally hastening regeneration when not in combat without having to burn a potion. At the very least I'd pick one up when in the dungeon and carry it until I need the pack space for something else.
