    YASD to Tarrasque

    dump

Really, and I mean, *really* stupid death.

Tarrasque has almost killed my first winner, and I was very cautious when fighting with him after that. But my mage has recently killed a lot of high level uniques without much effort and thus became dangerously overconfident. That was the first mistake.
The second really bad mistake happened when I continued fighting with him at 400+ HP without healing options.
And the third, absolutely fatal, was when he took me down to 200+ HP and I understood that the next attack will kill me. What options did I have?
    • cast Word of Destruction (the most preferred option)
    • cast Teleport Level (also very safe)
    • cast Teleport Away on Tarrasque
    • cast Teleport Self (not very safe)

But I decided... to zap the rod of teleport other. With 0% fail on the same spell and 200+ SP. And I failed to do it. Oh, yeah, good old RNG knows his job :-)

Also, max fire damage with double resistance is 1600/9 = 178, and you ended with -55 HP. That suggests your rFire spell had lapsed... Anyway that is a classy death.

But it's always fun to read the artifact spoiler, and I feel an intense desire to share it :-)

I've found some pretty good gear, but here are the most impressive items I missed:
      Code:
      The Dagger 'Argonwe' (3d4) (+18,+20)
      ------------------------------------
      +10 intelligence, wisdom, speed.
      Slays undead, orcs.
      Provides resistance to nexus, nether.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Blessed by the gods. Grants the ability to see invisible things.

Min Level 72, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, 1.2 lbs
+10 speed is very impressive alone, but +10 stat?!

No shortage of good missile launchers:
      Code:
The Short Bow 'Echor' (x2) (+37,+12)
      ------------------------------------
      +3 constitution, charisma, shooting speed.
      Slays evil creatures, orcs.
      Provides immunity to lightning.
Provides resistance to acid, poison, fear, light, dark.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
      Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it heals 500 hit points.
Takes 182 to 338 turns to recharge.

Min Level 67, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, 3.0 lbs
Mostly useful for imElec, but +3 shooting speed is also a rare find.
      Code:
The Long Bow 'Avalas' (x6) (+13,+13)
      ------------------------------------
      +3 shooting speed, shooting power.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
      Aggravates creatures nearby.

Min Level 62, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, 4.0 lbs
And this is simply the long bow of death.

      Armor:
      Code:
The Mithril Plate Mail of Umogril (-3) [35,+20]
      -----------------------------------------------
      +1 strength.
      Provides immunity to lightning, fire.
Provides resistance to cold, poison, fear, dark, confusion, shards.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
      Slows your metabolism.

When activated, it reveals to you the extent of an item's magical powers.
Takes 90 to 162 turns to recharge.

Min Level 56, Max Level 127, Generation chance 3, 30.0 lbs
With two immunties and very nice set of resists I'd say this is Bladeturner-grade item.
      Code:
The Green Dragon Scale Mail of Valanwe (-2) [30,+26]
      ----------------------------------------------------
+3 strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, charisma,
      speed.
Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, fear, light,
      dark, blindness, nexus, nether, chaos.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
      Sustains dexterity.
Sustains your life force. Grants the ability to see invisible things.

When activated, it bestows upon you berserk rage, bless, and resistance.
Takes 462 to 882 turns to recharge.

Min Level 97, Max Level 127, Generation chance 8, 18.0 lbs
And this one is defintely ex-Bladeturner.
      Code:
The Iron Helm of Nilin [5,+14]
      ------------------------------
      +4 intelligence, charisma.
      Provides immunity to cold.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
      Speeds regeneration. Grants telepathy.

Min Level 31, Max Level 127, Generation chance 4, 7.5 lbs
Immunity and ESP — super-useful helm.

Yea, the tarrasque recently took down my most promising warrior ever. He was clevel 44 on dlevel 98 and killing anything that was not faster than him. Smeagol was in the same room as tarrasque and I decided to kill him and then run. Tarrasque woke up the turn before I hit smeagol, I hit smeagol and killed him and the tarrasque double breathed, frost then fire, over 1k hit points to dead in one turn. Classic ambush trap

tarrasque wakes up very easily. Best to teleport him away and then keep him on your radar.

I've killed it many fewer times than I've killed Morgoth.

Join the club. It's quite a big one.

              Code:
              S:1_IN_2
              S:BR_COLD | BR_DISE | BR_FIRE
Oh, I see now why it's so much harder than other big breathers like Gothmog. It doesn't waste time trying to confuse me and all stuff like this. Just pure damage.

That's what it is...an engine of complete, rampant destruction. Absolutely no subtlety; it doesn't have enough of a brain for that.
