Adamantite on DL2?

So I just started a kobold rogue, and I walk down the stairs to DL2. A novice warrior walks into the room, I throw a couple flasks of oil, he goes down easy. Drops some money. "Wait a second," I think to myself, "that money looks oddly...green?"

"You have found 418 gold pieces worth of adamantite."

Wait...what? Is this a bug, or am I just ridiculously lucky?

There was a change to increase the variance on money drops, and you got lucky. I don't know how lucky you have to be to get 418 at DL 2, but it is presumably not a bug.

I think there are bugs with money drops, but in the other direction. The last two times I killed the Lernean Hydra, deep, I got single money drops between 120 and 130 IIRC. Contrast that to the old days of a bunch of drops around 300 each. I also think creeping coins should always drop at least one treasure, perhaps with the variance turned off so that they always drop the right flavor of metal.

This is what I experience, regular piles of adamantine usually average around 400some, but creeping adamantine coins drop usually 20-30 adamantine.

I think I took out creeping gold coins on DL...13 or 14? Maybe a bit deeper, but before 20. Got something like 13 gold from them...really pathetic.

As far as, how often should one see a 400 gp drop, of whatever flavor of money, on level 2? Should be rare, but shouldn't be insane. 400 gp means, what, 3 scrolls of WoR, or about the same as a typical +2,+2 dagger. It's not a big deal. If the money had been put there during level creation, it should only generate a very mild improvement in the level feeling, IMO...not like the ring of acid [+9] that got created on DL 8, that was *rather* nice.
