Forgive me, RNG, for...
...not paying attention. I was running around a lit room picking up my arrows after a tough fight. I did not notice the 'It breathes sound' messages until the vibration hounds in the dark corridor had knocked off my few remaining HP.
...disobedience. Ok I admit it. I know 'thou shalt not hold down keys', but that line of Algoroths was far too tempting. I really appreciated the time hounds at the far end though. Nice touch.
...underestimating my opponent. I'll just step back a square to let the Ethereal Dragon out of the wall so I can TO it. It breathes confusion for *HOW* much.
...being distracted by my kids. I was flying. My 5d4 triple branded dagger was cutting through opponents. My (aggravating) x5 short bow of *slay* undead could take out ringwraiths in 3 shots. Unfortunately my kids weren't playing nice and whilst telling them off, I missed a detection boundary, triggered a summoning trap and took an extra step to boot... gravity hounds. Thanks and goodnight.
...being naive. New char. Nice start. Not enough mana/low enough fail rate to be detecting without resting. Hit a summoning trap in a corridor and got a brown mold on either side of me. I'm still confused.
...running down a corridor. Now come on - this is hardly fair. I had found myself a quadruple branded 4d5 longsword of destructive pleasure and was enjoying life. Unfortunately I was yet to gain a source of ESP. I was just running back down a long corridor towards the stairs down, when I die. Just like that. Apparently a Death Drake had breathed unresisted nether at me. The only thing I could have done differently was to take a few steps at a time and keep casting detect invisible - not that I would have had enough mana to keep that up for long.
...picking up the +8 speed boots Mughash dropped. The end to this sorry tale has yet to be played out, but I can't imagine it will be particularly pleasant.
