If there was a manual for this game rather than poorly maintained spoilers, then the number of players would number in the hundreds of thousands or millions rather than tens of thousands. Then you could RTFM and there would be more YAVP rather than YASD posts...
In the past 6 hours of game play (15 clock), I killed Uriel angel of fire and went four rounds with the escorts of Ancalagon killing 74 dragons to 746 total of which 46 were death drake or greater to a total of 176. I have 12.4 million experience, +1.4m gained in 3.5k game turns at 1221.5k turns - over 400/new turn now. I just passed 18k on total monsters killed. I found and dropped only three artifacts at one per 500k experience turns or so, quite different from the previous rate of 200k. They were short bow of Amras, star of Elendil, and heavy crossbow of Umbar.Last edited by LCC; July 23, 2009, 06:42.Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

I think James Doyle, who has spent a long time writing this, would hope that it satisfied your needs. If it doesn't, start a thread about the improvements you'd like to see ...
Edit : The manual seems to be incomplete, see :

In the past 5 hours of game play (12 clock), I gained 1.26 million experience (to 13.66 million) in 4.1k turns (at 1225.6k turns) for an average of 300 new experience/ turn. I have killed 806 dragons (+60), of which 215 were death drake of greater (+39). I found bastard sword Calris (dropped), and short sword Sting (stashed for later). At 6 blows Sting is 5% better at killing evil, but nowhere near as good as trident Ulmo at killing dragons. I sold the amulet of wisdom +6 to free up a slot. I found a ! charisma to 18/95 base. That's about it. I have not gained much in the way of potions due to standing in a hallway killing by sword rather than standing in a corner and praying as I was doing previously. So some dragon always breathes frost and destroys the potions. That is okay, because I have more potions already than in LCC1. Hallway bashing is far less risky than corner praying...Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

Hallway bashing
You might want to consider an anti summoning / breath corridor (dig in a zig zag, such that only one monster can see you at a time). This significantly reduces breath attacks, since the only monster that can see you is next to you. Really helps when you are trying to accumulate potions / rods or other things that can be destroyed by various breath attacks.

I started playing today an hour ago. Level 98 was destroyed, but level 97 had a demon pit. I decided to give praying demons to death a try. So I dropped my staffs, hasted to +33 (before dropping speed staffs), and ran to a corner of the pit. I wielded the MoD and it opened the wall on the first try. I wielded Ulmo, bashed my way into the room and started praying. Several prayers and healing later, they summoned two bronze golems and Lungorthin. I had killed all the lesser Balrogs by then, and was under attack by three horned reapers with Lungorthin two steps away. So I did a TO on Lungorthin, then a WoG spell banish evil to clear the room. That left a lot of treasure lying about to pick up, including an unidentified rod. But those two 'g' were in the room and they summon demons. So I ran back and got my staffs, used the banishment to get rid of 'g' and went back to examine the plunder. Almost immediately I found the light crossbow ***Cubragol*** !!! I swapped to that and went to the rod, which turned out to be healing - hoorah! With high hopes I examined the rest of the treasure, but it was all junk...
Upon return home I picked up that fine heavy crossbow and the bolts, dropped Bard and the arrows, dropped 4 of 6 staffs of speed and sold the crossbow. That got me down to burden 113%, and speed without haste of +30. I would be ready for endgame, but my weapon at four blows is just not good enough. So I will keep scumming in the hope that I find Deathwreaker. All in all, a very profitable hour! Experience now 13836k (+175k), turn 1227808 (+2.2k), but only 80 new experience/turn versus 300+ killing wyrms...Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

I have been very frustrated the past 2.5 hours - no sightings of Ancalagon. BUT I did finally get a red dragon pit, praying them to death and finding the pick of Erebor - just what I needed! The RNG has to be reading the forums! There was also a lesser vault with Ulfast and Brodda in it, so I killed them. I recalled and picked up the helm Holhenneth, selling it to free up a slot for stashing that heavy mace of disruption. Experience is 13493k at turn 1230k, so I gained only 46 experience per turn last 2.3k turns. Speed is +30 without haste, with burden now only 103% carrying the pick for tunneling...Last edited by LCC; July 24, 2009, 03:32.Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

I took a long nap, then went down to 98. To my delight, I immediately discovered a lesser vault. I saw a potion of life, a staff of banishment just inside the west granite entrance, and a staff of healing, which made it worth my while to open it. I also saw the following : Kronos, Azriel, Gothmog, Lungorthin (outside vault), Qlzqqlzuup, Thuringwethil, Khamul, Shelob, and Bolg. I banished all Q and Z (gravity & time hounds in the vault) and recharged my staff. I banished all U, V, and A then recharged. I banished all s, G, and W then recharged. I banished all g, L, and p (priests, mages etc.) and read a scroll of recharge. The staff blew up! Oh well...
I tunneled to the entrance, teleported away all the monsters in sight, and picked up the new staff of banishment. I banished all e, D, P, and recharged. I walked 17 steps in, then read that scroll of mass banishment which I have been carrying for a while. It knocked me down to 365 HP! I healed up and looked at my monster list again. Much better! From there on out it was a cakewalk. I just teleported away anything which was a nuisance. I found and dropped the battle axe Lotharang, and the main gauche Azaghal. It was four hours of careful play taking 2693 turns, and all that I found was junk except the potion of life and staffs. Oh well...
Edit :
When I got home, I picked up the staff of banishment from my home, because it was doing me no good there, I can now afford the weight, and next time my staff blows up, I might not be so lucky as to have one waiting for me to pick up. I just realized that there is something peculiar going on with the vaults! When I found the greater vault, it had rings of speed and a pick just inside the entrances, just what I needed! This one had a staff of banishment, also just what I needed! So am I imagining things, or is there an AI function which examines the character inventory to determine what to put into the vaults? Maybe I am just a lucky fellow!
I uploaded the game file to my home page below. It is file "LCC3 LV on 98". If you have an intense dislike of unique monsters and want to use my character to beat on several, here is your chance!Last edited by LCC; July 24, 2009, 03:43.Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

After a nap I went to 98 - Troll pit. 97 Troll pit. 96 Demon pit - handled same as before, gaining 2 potions restore mana, 1 speed, and 1 healing. Not a bad haul for 2k turns and 1.5 hours play. Now at turn 1234747, experience 14087k. I have killed 2212 orcs, 2984 trolls, 1398 ogres/giants, 570 demons, 909 dragons, 57/95 unique seen, and a total of 18626 monsters killed. I have found 91 artifacts. I have identified all except 2 rings, 3 amulets, 9 potions (forgot it scrolled last time), all scrolls found, 1 wand, 1 staff, 1 rod, and 4 mushrooms. My consumables are in good shape. If I could just find Deathwreaker, I would try killing Morgoth...Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

I found the great axe of Eonwe (stashed), which I will use to kill S&M if I can't get Deathwreaker. I cleared two troll pits and killed Kronos lord of titans. In 6k turns to 1240k, I gained 350k experience to 14436k. I killed 402 monsters to 19028 total. I gained 3 potions speed, 1 staff healing, 2 staffs speed (net - one blew up), and 1 staff of the magi. I repeatedly bought out the Alchemy shop until I had 79 scrolls of recharging stashed. Speed is +30 without haste at burden 107%. I have not seen Ancalagon since I found Cubragol - something going on there?Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

On level 98 there were two treasure rooms and a lesser vault. In one treasure room was the elfstone Elessar - worn and later stashed amulet of Ingwe, picking up 2 staffs of Magi for slot. All the other stuff in the treasure rooms and vault were junk except a staff of healing, potion speed, and potion CHR.
HP978, SP393, AC191+5 prayer, hitting 4@88+, shooting 1@120+, speed +32 not hasted at burden 115%, stats str 18/*** (260), int 18/120, wis 18/*** (230), dex 18/*** (220), con 18/*** (230), chr 18/*** (229), turn 1242k (+2k), experience 14450529 (+14k), gold 2617k. Now all I really need is MoD Deathwreaker!Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:

Just pick up Eonwe or the MoD of Gondolin and go after Morgoth. 400dam/turn is sufficient for a Priest with Banish Evil and 970 HP.
You might want to quaff a stack of !Heroism (and !Berserk if you can get it) along with your Blessing spell before you go after Morgoth.Comment

You know what? I was just wondering about that, and about to kill Sauron as practice! Thanks for the encouragement! I will buy out the temple until I get a big stack of potions of heroism. It might cost a half million from destroying weapons, but I have 2.6 million to burn anyway. I have not seen ANY potions berserk in the alchemy or temple in 3.1.0 beta, must be busted...Lonnie Courtney Clay - see:
