In a sense, Grond killing line of sight and destroying many of his summoned minions so I can stand there and pummel him almost counts as killing him with Grond. At least as an accomplice.

edit: Also, LCC, I just beat Morgoth with my paladin who only had +15 natural speed without haste. If you can stack the right resists and have enough HP to get through it (or sources of Haste) then you can still take him down even if he double taps every so often.

I gained 986k experience on level 98 killing wyrms in 8k turns, not bad. I killed Ulwarth son of Ulfang. I found artifacts : dagger Narthanc (dropped), mithril shield of Gil-galad (dropped), pike Til-i-arc (dropped), Caestus of Fingolfin (worn and dropped leather gloves Cambeleg), metal cap of Celebrimbor (dropped), and leather boots of Wormtongue (dropped). I also found my first rod of speed. I found an excellent mace of disruption to carry which also tunnels fine, so good at hitting that I dropped the blade of chaos of slay demon, spear of Orome, and mattock of Nain. Once home I sold the ring of Barahir and the mithril chain mail Belegennon to free up slots and stashed my heavy crossbow to lighten my load. With one slot open, I will now see about finding some bolts worth stashing, preferably slay evil. My scumming added 3 potions healing, 1 potion life, 3 potions restore mana, 1 potion speed, 2 staffs healing, 1 rod of identify, 1 rod of speed, and 1 staff of the magi, which I was delighted to see because I have been afraid my recharging would blow up the one which I was carrying - I now carry two.

With Fingolfin I now have stats str 18/*** (240), int 150, wis 18/*** (240), dex 18/*** (240), con 18/*** (230), and chr 18/*** (230). I am sitting pretty! My speed without haste is +22 at burden 116% - I dropped 17 pounds from last post in spite of adding the heavy mace of disruption.

Edit : Wielding the following weapons I hit (x) - trident of Ulmo (81+), mace Taratol (63.5+), mace of disruption of Gondolin (85.5+). I would just wield the MoD except that Ulmo provides resist nether and is my only source of that. I carry Taratol for facing down lightning breathers...

I am going to continue playing levels 97-98 until I get Deathwreaker or "the one ring", whichever comes first.

The Ring of Power 'Vilya' (+10,+10) - level 90
This alone is worth going the extra distance.

Thats right! In fact, at the rate that I am finding artifacts, it will take only a week or so to pull the last one - "the one ring". In four hours of play this morning, I have found four more to 79 of 134 according to the spoiler. 55 to go is less than one week of play. I get the artifacts from the escorts of Ancalagon the black, who is a VERY useful monster farming source. I tried out my new mace in melee in hallways and it works great!

You may be there for a LONG time depending on your luck. I've only found Deathwreaker once ever, and never found The One Ring. You might as well throw Ringil and Bladeturner in there too.

I will find ALL artifacts by killing the great wyrm escorts of Ancalagon, teleporting him away for another round later. Great wyrms drop lots of good treasure, producing an artifact about once per 200k experience. I killed 207 dragons in the last 43 clock hours for a total of 672. I killed 130 which were death drake or greater, 60 in the last 43 hours. I love wyrms! I would have killed more, but I needed to sleep and there was a storm. I hate hounds! I killed Carcharoth. I found and dropped the following artifacts today : gauntlets of Eol, zweihander Gurthang, dagger of Rilia, cloak Colannon, and scythe Avavir. I gained 941k experience in 9k turns. My scumming got me a ring of speed +14...

Well as Zikke says, you will be there for a very long time. How many PDSMs have dropped so far in your quest for Bladeturner for example...?

None. But I read the spoiler about artifacts being added to a table when the decision to create an artifact is rolled. It is obvious from my finding 80 artifacts so far that the decision to create an artifact is being made quite often when I kill great wyrms. So all that is required is for me to whittle down the size of the table by pulling common artifacts out. Eventually the table will be reduced to just a few rare artifacts. Unless the decision to create an artifact is arbitrarily REVOKED when the table falls below a minimum size, I will be able to pull every artifact there is in just a week or two more of play.

Perhaps one of the maintainers could comment on whether my assumptions are correct ? For example, is the table a fixed size and the decision to create an artifact cancelled when all of the artifacts rolled have been pulled already ?

                      It's not quite like that.

Every time an object is generated, there is a chance (1 in 10 for wyrms) that the game will try to generate a special artifact (ring, amulet or light). They are gone through in order, and (if in depth, or lucky) selected if they pass the rarity roll (a 1 in rarity chance).

If no special artifact is generated, an object type is selected, and it has a chance to get a chance to be an artifact - which it can only pass if the artifact is of that type. So, in particular, Psi's point is this - you can't see Bladeturner unless you get PDSM, and get the artifact chance, and pass the rarity roll. So on average you would see more than 20 PDSMs before seeing Bladeturner.

The Small Metal Shield of Thorin [3,+25] Level 40, Rarity 6, 6.5 lbs, 60000 AU
The Golden Crown of Gondor [0,+15] Level 40, Rarity 40, 3.0 lbs, 100000 AU
The Set of Cesti of Fingolfin (+10,+10) [5,+20] Level 40, Rarity 15, 4.0 lbs, 110000 AU
The Pair of Hard Leather Boots of Feanor [3,+20] Level 40, Rarity 120, 4.0 lbs, 300000 AU
                        swap weapons :
                        The Mace 'Taratol' (3d4) (+12,+12) Level 20, Rarity 15, 20.0 lbs, 50000 AU
                        u) a Mace of Disruption of Gondolin (5d8) (+17,+19) Provides resistance to dark. Cannot be harmed by acid, fire. Prevents paralysis. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Radius 1 light. With this weapon, you would currently get 4 blows per round. Each blow will do an average damage of 130.5 against orcs, 130.5 against trolls, 130.5 against dragons, 130.5 against demons, 130.5 against undead, and 85.5 against normal creatures.

So I got very lucky with Ulmo and exceptionally lucky with Feanor already. I have 1.4 million in my pack or worn. That is a lot of money. I am a lucky fellow, and I expect to find three or four of the five listed at top! Any comments?

Vilya and Elesser will appear if you keep scumming. Cubragol is also likely as it is a common base item and not that rare. Therefore you should meet your expectations.

Thanks for the encouragement! I expect to scum until I hit 1.4 million turns then kill Sauron and Morgoth for a game with half the turns of LCC1. So I have 182k turns to go at speed +30 and about 100 experience per turn for a total added of 12.8 million experience, more than doubling my current level to 24 million total. Theoretically and based upon experience to date, that will find me 64 artifacts at 200k experience per artifact. I have now found 81 of 134 artifacts, so there are only 53 more artifacts to find. My calculation is that I will probably find 46 - all except :

                            The Two-Handed Sword 'Zarcuthra' (4d6) (+19,+21) Level 30, Rarity 180, 25.0 lbs, 200000 AU - not blessed and aggravates, won't miss it
The Long Sword 'Ringil' (4d5) (+22,+25) Level 20, Rarity 120, 13.0 lbs, 300000 AU - would be nice but not necessary. I have plenty speed
The Bastard Sword of Eowyn (4d4) (+12,+16) Level 30, Rarity 100, 14.0 lbs, 120000 AU - for me not worth finding, and not blessed
The Great Axe of Eonwe (5d4) (+15,+18) [+8] Level 30, Rarity 120, 23.0 lbs, 200000 AU - is blessed, but for me not worth finding
The Quarterstaff of Olorin (2d9) (+10,+13) Level 30, Rarity 105, 15.0 lbs, 130000 AU - for me not worth finding
                            The Ball-and-Chain of Fundin Bluecloak (4d4) (+13,+17) [+10] Level 65, Rarity 100, 13.0 lbs, 60000 AU - for me not worth finding
The Ring of Power 'The One Ring' (+15,+15) Level 100, Rarity 100, 0.2 lbs, 5000000 AU - can live without it.

Edit : I just noticed that if I get 25 million experience, then I will rank in the top 100 for Angband Vanilla. So far this year only three dumps rank in the top 100. So my goal is now to be the fourth!

                            Any comments?

I usually find Ellesar, Cubragol, and all 3 elemental Rings of Power before I finish a game, so no worries there. The others you'll need some luck for, or a long time. Good luck!

On another note: you certainly don't need all of those to beat Morgoth. At a certain point you may realize you can stop scumming and just go kill the guy.
