On my 2nd trip to 50, I found LB Bard (stashed - using Belthronding for resist disenchantment) and SMS Thorin (wore for FA and +4 STR, CON and immunity acid) and killed Beorn. I sold LMS Anarion (have spells to restore trashed stats) and LG Cammithrim (FA from Thorin now). I picked up the LG Power from home to wear for +5 STR. I swapped FPA Isildur (+1 con) for ACM Caspanion (+3 con) at home. I finally wielded my swap weapon Nar-i-vagil and stashed the HA scimitar in home JIC. I sold off *destruction* staffs and scroll since I have the spell. I wished for str and con last post and got it. So I now WISH that I would get crossbow Cubragol and spear Orome!

    HP740, SP300, AC134+5 prayer, hitting 4@56+, shooting 2@118+, stats with equipment - str 18/186, int 18/130, wis 18/260, dex 18/115, con 18/227, chr 18/84.

You have enough hp to survive any big breaths, and your speed and damage are quite high, you should go deeper, at least to 75-80 for speed rings, then drop to 98 and scum before the big fight.

See attached file from LCC1. I lack spear of Orome, helm Dor-Lomin, and gloves Cambeleg. On the other hand, I am plus bow of Bard and boots Feanor. My speed is better but my weapon sucks. My HP are still below 800. I am doing well enough on level 50 to get the artifacts which I want. So why should I risk dying in a risky battle(s) on deeper levels when I could get good artifacts on level 50 killing easy monsters? I am on target for a win in less than 1.5 million turns, compared to 2.9 million of LCC1. So thanks for the advice, but I decline to accept it...

Don't plan your character according to what you want, but according to what you have.

          You have:
          CON 18/200.
          WIS 18/220.
          Speed 16
          Maximum breath damage:
          550 Nether
          533 Elec (single resist)
<=428 damage all other high resists
          266 (Poison, Acid)
177 (Fire, Cold, with double resist)

You also have 0-fail on 300pt healing, and you do a LOT of damage with Belthronding.

The point is: this character is strong enough to handle (escape or evade) any monster, and strong enough to defeat most monsters.

Sure, you can spend lots of time on dl 50, but being deeper is more fun, and it's not particularly more dangerous for such a strong character.

Ok Pete, you convinced me. I was worried most about breath attacks. Having them listed like that eased my mind. I just finished a very disappointing level. It was feeling superb. It had a tiny vault with three lines between permanent walls. Inside were two light crossbows. I felt certain that one of them would be Cubragol. Both were trash. HOWEVER, the experience paid off because I killed a master vampire and got a HA main gauche that hits better than Nar-i-vagil.

So I will go downstairs slowly, clearing each level of high point monsters and collecting useful things until I hit dungeon level 80. When I get to 80, I intend to scum it until clvl 50 in the hope of getting Deathwreaker again.

Deathwreaker is nice, but there's any number of weapons more than sufficient for killing Morgoth as a priest.

Big-Dice & bonus Holy Avenger/*Slay Evil* (MoD, SoS, BoC,...)
Big-Dice & bonus Fury/extra attacks weapon (+2 attacks) (Preferably blunt, but at cl 50 the pointy penalty doesn't count for much.)
              Ringil
              Aule(!)
              Sling of Buckland (+2)
              Belthronding/Bard + HA/Slay Evil ammo.

And all the usual suspect pointy artifact weapons--again, at cl 50, the pointy penalty is pretty negligible.

Thanks for the advice Pete. See latest dump at :

Promoted clvl 39 on fifth trip to dlvl 50 at 28793 turns /clvl. I was about to dive when I saw a giant pit and a vault, so I cleaned them up and got promoted. Now wielding fourth good weapon, a main gauche HA (+17,+20) for 4@54+, with +2 WIS. So I was able to stash the Amulet of Wis +6 and wear regeneration. Killed Gorlim and Adunaphel. Found Zweihander Mormegil and dropped it - heavily cursed and worthless. Got a copy of PB Holy Infusions, completing my set. Sold gauntlets Paurhach and stashed quarterstaff Nar-i-vagil. HP753, SP308, AC136+5 prayer.

Promoted level 40 on dlvl 61 - fought demons and survived. Killed Ren the Unclean, Lernaean Hydra, and poor old Bill the Stone Troll who made the mistake of wandering into the demon fight (dispel evil got him). I cleared a pit of giants on dlvl 61 except for the greater titan, who ran away with one asterisk life while I was fighting summoned hydras and LH. I was unable to locate him later. 361k experience in 12k turns - pretty good, fighting demons will do that...

                  HP775, SP316, AC136+5 prayer, ! augmentation gave base str 18/98, int 18/78, wis 18/100, dex 18/99, con 18/93, chr 18/64.

I LOVE the Wrath of God spell dispel evil - they dissolve!

Edit - I forgot to mention that I found the jewel Evenstar (stashed) and the leather shield of Celegorm (sold).

I was running downstairs, and had reached dlvl 68 when I detected a cluster of treasures. One of them was a trident 4d8! Sure enough I plundered that vault for the Trident of Ulmo, and killed an AMHD to get gloves Cambeleg (worn and trashed old gloves) to boot!!! I now have immunity to acid and resist everything except shards. Now all I need is a speed ring and more strength - helm Dor-Lomin by preference and crossbow Cubragol would do me fine! Going down to 75 or 80, I have not decided.

HP775, SP316, AC 155+5, hit 4@68+ with brand by ring of acid (104 + acid for dragons - HUNT EM!), shoot 2@106+, potion augmentation and equipment changes to final stats : str 18/159, int 18/125, wis 18/200, dex 18/160, con 18/217, chr 18/122.

I changed my weapon of course, and sold off the old one and Nar-i-vagil from home. I swapped the amulet regeneration (get regen from Ulmo) for the jewel Evenstar from home. I swapped the ring con+4 for the ring of acid+14 from home. I considered the ring of lightning+15, but there are fewer monsters resisting acid than lightning. My failure rate is 0% for the 1000 point heal spell, so I prefer not to use the amulet of wisdom right now, maybe later, which is why it is still stashed in home...

I am having a winning streak going down - thanks Pete Mack and Sirridan!

After a nap I reviewed my dump. I sold off the scrolls of recharging since I have a 0% fail spell that is cheap. I bought back and stashed the IH Holhenneth which I sold to armor shop a while back, to gold 780k. I picked up my crossbow and bolts of slay demon so that in the next encounter, I will no have to melee unless I want to...

I am going down to level 80 for ring of power Nenya and mace of disruption Deathwreaker, not stopping at 75.

Priest recharging spell is weak, nowhere near as good as the scrolls. Keep the scrolls.

Events have made your advice obsolete. Promoted clvl 41 on dlvl 72, turns/ clvl now 27920. Killed Vargo, Akhorahil got spear of Melkor - dropped, Hoarmurath, Dwar, Feagwath - got Lucerne Hammer Turmil (dropped) and Halberd Osandir (dropped). Got a staff of the magi. Recharge costs 20 mana and using once restores 324 mana - a GREAT profit. Got a staff of healing too. Restores 300+ HP three times and recharge costs only 20 versus casting heal three times for 48 mana. So if I have at least 30 mana I am sitting pretty with the staff of speed, healing, and magi. Teleport away, use mana to recharge magi, use magi to restore mana, use mana to recharge healing, heal self, use mana to recharge speed, haste self, and teleport back to the battle site. I am ready to take on demons and undead! Only thing is that I have to use 70 mana for restoration if str or dex get wiped. I have sustain on int, wis, and con. I need ring of power Vilya level 90 for sustain str and dex, but first I want a speed ring from level 80 scumming...

HP796, SP324, speed 15+10 hasted, equipment and stats same - next promotion 490k, but I just got 345k in 3k turns, so it should come soon...

The one problem I see with that is if you recharge and the staff explodes, which can happen...

Never recharge a staff that has charges on it. If it has two or three, you do not need a recharge. If it has one, use it up THEN recharge. I have never had a staff or wand with zero charges explode.

That's just luck though and using the weaker priest recharging spell you are more likely to come unstuck than using scrolls.
